Meh - Sissoko is just depth at this point. I still don't think the elbow was as bad as everyone is making it, though. Arter had no business being there in the first place, as he was deliberately trying to interfere with Sissoko's attempt at a quick throw. I think he really just tried to shrug him off to clear some space and unfortunately connected with the elbow.

A lot of mismatches (on paper), save for one huge match Sunday and Chelsea - Everton could be interesting. I know Kane started training, but am assuming he'll be out, right?

Most likely out of the NLD. I'm surprised Spurs are still undefeated with Kane's long absence. Hopefully his return will help them turn some of these draws into wins.

It's not as if they're bereft of talent. And the Janssen acquisition was pretty huge. Will be interesting to see if the Spurs go on a run once Kane returns.

Really big game Sunday. Can't wait.

Unfortunately, he hasn't lived up to the hype yet. He scored his first league goal last week, and that was from the penalty spot. I still think he'll come around, but he's been a slow starter for sure.

Of course this means they will probably bounce back and dominate Arsenal on Sunday because that is kind of the way this season has gone so far.

Well I think Klinsmann's seat is as hot as ever. If there was a good time to fire him, it would be now because the next qualifiers aren't until March. But I don't think they will or should fire him.

Now back to the good stuff! United/Arsenal, Dortmund/Bayern, and Atletico/Real all on Saturday.:rock:

I have to agree with this. It's sad because I really wanted Klinsi to succeed, but at this point there is just no momentum.

The real indictment is not that we're absolutely awful or something like that, but more so that there really hasn't been any noticeable improvement over his tenure. Nothing to make you go, "yes, this is our guy!" The youth programs aren't doing that much better (some are doing worse), we've not had any really big successes beyond the scope of what Bradley or Arena brought us, and we don't have some all-star crop of youth that are going to save the day (many would argue that are current U23s are not as good as the Dempsey, Donovan group).

As far as last night (and vs. Mexico for that matter), playing Jermaine Jones as anything more than a 60th minute sub is inexcusable. Even when he is in full health he is error prone, penalty prone, and conflicts in position with Bradley. The fact that he played so many minutes his first time back from injury is really a joke and unfair to him, the US team, and his club team.

A brand new manager for a pair of do-or-die games in the Hex next spring is a pretty scary proposition. Does a new manager really give you a better chance in THOSE GAMES?

That's gotta be part of the calculation.

It's a fair question. At this point I would say "yes" a new manager gives us a better chance in those two games. International soccer is a different beast for coaches than club soccer since player selection, player management, and role identification plays a larger role than advanced game strategies and long-term practice planning. This, in my eyes, makes the transition for a new coach a bit easier if they have some familiarity with the US player pool.

To me, now is really the only appropriate time to replace Klinsmann because there is a long gap (including the January camp) before the next set of games, it is still early on in the qualification process, and really any coach should be able to handle the next two games against sub-50 FIFA teams. So if you don't think Klinsmann is the guy to lead us for the next 4 years, now seems to really be the only logical time to make that change in some regards.

(To be clear, if Klinsmann stays I think he'll get us through the qualification process, I just don't think he is the long-term answer anymore.)

Of course the counter-argument to this is Klinsmann got us through the group of death in the World Cup, had us into extra time against Belgium, and got us through the group of death in the Copa America.

But I do agree with everything you said. I'm really on the fence about Klinsmann. The biggest problem is like you mentioned, the u-23s being almost non-existent. We need more John Anthony-Brooks' and Bobby Wood's. Because our youngest guys seem to be our most skilled but they are not ready to take over yet.

JK's tenure is just about over, as it should be. We are seriously backsliding. Too much reliance on grizzled vets. Sparse replacements developed from the dumpster fire that is the U23s. Some very good talent a tad younger, but looks like no escaping a 2-odd year (minimum) dip. Cup half full view: great opportunity coming soon to clear out the deadwood and play the kids. Skip the U23s (for the most part) and go with the talent.
