I have ZERO interest in this except to not see Bruce Pearl win a national title. At least my Saturday afternoon and evening are now open.
The last time a non 1 seed, non-Uconn team won the championship was 2 seed Villanova in 2016. Before that it was 3 seed Florida in 2006.
2 of the coaches most hated by (old) Illini fans in final 4. Kelvin Scampson and Satan.

Given the Pearl scandal when at Iowa with us, the Sampson scandal when at Indiana with us, the shunning of us by Sheyer despite being coached by Webers brother in high school and attending the 05 championship game in Illinois gear behind our bench , I have no choice but to root for Florida.
Florida has to be the lesser of all the evils here yes?

The dreadful (was that McGritty's gloriously eye-rolling term?), failed tournament that DARED to for the first time ever SEED teams in such an ill-mannered way, patrician way! We want idiots on the seeding committee! We want DRAMA! We hates them ... oh, we hates them! ... We hate their modern and accurate metrics, their autocratic determinism! Boooo! We want to SCREAM. And ARGUE and rage!

One thing that’s quite apparent after watching these E8 games are how much smarter these teams play than us.
They don’t have two guys jumping for a block that they have close to no chance of getting, instead they maintain position for the rebound (Morez, Tomi, Ben all had this problem).
They don’t have guys contesting shots that they have no chance to defend without fouling because they get there to contest too late (Tomi, Morez).
They generally make the easy pass and not the home run pass. Value the basketball and possessions much more than we did.
Their defenses are also tough as nails with correct rotations and play physically without fouling.
We either need to go after players with higher BBIQ or coach them on how to make smarter plays.

Walk into a room, look up at the flat screen, take a sip, and about 45 seconds later, you see it: smarter play.

I agree. I would say Houston next. Unfortunately Duke and Auburn are likely the 1st and 2nd best teams.
