Doesn't change that there were no top 100 recruits on the roster. Makes the guys with a roster full of top 100 guys look like a schmucks.

I was going back and forth in my mind about Houston. Remembering what Sampson did during his brief time at Indiana but it's hard not to respect the type of program he has built at Houston and hard not to respect how they play. Also, Florida won 2 national titles in this century so it kind of would've been cool to see some new blood win one. But, yea, not too sad for Sampson either

Right after the game, this was my first text to my best friend:

That was some Illinois offense type stuff (except a different s word)

Florida won but I think Houston is the better team. I think they win a best 3 out of 5 series

Traveling not called anymore at any time.....lots of slow mo video showing the consistent extra step when charging the lane? And hanging on the rim and doing chin ups....never a call. Worst of all.....the back to the basket, lean in push the defender, dribble, push again but using the left arm to swing and swat the defender....push your way to the easy turn around. Broome/Auburn master at this move.

They weren’t the best team. If they were they would be champions today. The best team finishes the job. They didn’t.

Don’t know if I find agreement here but it seems the SEC plays the no blood no foul that used to be the BIG label. Now we seem to be the touch foul champions and it doesn’t play well in the tournament. More of a reason in our lack of performance than anything else I can identify. Those final four games required athleticism and strength as well as an ability to withstand a mugging. Reminded me of NBA finals when it was a life risk to take it to the paint. 10 ft jumper has to be higher %.

I always lament about stuff like this as I sure wish Villanova had taken out North Carolina in 2005.
I still hold a grudge (and always will to some degree) against Tom O'Neill for that inexplicable travel call he made to wipe out an and-one that would have put Villanova in a great spot to win that Sweet 16 game. I was at Joe's in Chicago with a bunch of Illini fans watching the Friday night games since I was in town for the regional games, and the entire bar was incredulous about that call.

I still contend Tom O'Neill was a very good official who made a really bad call at an extremely unfortunate time.

Potential move by Bigs to issue football pads during play. Drive the lane at your own risk.

Lon Kruger and I can see the guy, but can not remember his name. Was Neal Walk on that team?
Slight correction. Kruger took the Gators to the final 4 in 1990. Billy Donavon had multiple final 4 appearances which included the 2 national championships. And now Todd Golden.
