True. But with college athletics today, it needed to be done. Cash is king and it's better to accept it than fight it.

I do wonder how teams will now get out of the bottom if they don't have good financial backers. It will be more difficult than before.
Best news is, it's now football time. But Illinois is pissing me off, I may go to Indiana's spring game. I need my fix.

Note: This is a seat selection sales pitch. When it's your turn to select seats, if you can come up with the skratch, consider selecting in East Main Sec 105 (on the 50 yd line). Cost is $419 + $350 Premium Seating Donation = $769/ticket. Yes, that's approximately $110/game, which isn't cheap. But, these are GREAT seats on the 50 yd line. To sit on the 50 yd line on the West side (Sec 127) would run you $459 + $500 Premium Seating Donation = $959/ticket. If you've already maxed out your I Fund donation budget, buying is Sec 105 probably isn't feasible. If you are a low level, or non-donor, and there are seats available in Sec 105, you can sit on the 50 yd line for a $350 Premium Seating Donation per ticket. I have been in Sec 105 for nine years and can assure you the view is awesome (click on the thumbnail pic and make it full screen to see what I'm talking about). Come join the party!

People are still up in arms on the Football ticket reseating/reselling. Illinois was very specific, you can buy as many as you want in their emails:
The number of seats you can select during the Memorial Stadium reseating process is not limited to what you have previously purchased. With the next reseat taking place in 2031, the best time to add seats is during your seat selection this year!
They knew this would happen. They'll profit from it as well. I don't know the specifics of the SeatGeek contract with Illinois, but they are paying Illinois DIA one way or another. DIA gets cash from the original tickets sale and then the re-sell of the tickets.
They also get a cut or flat fee contract (I don't know which) with the selling of parking passes. You get your parking pass as part of your Ifund contribution but if you resell it, DIA gets some of that $$ as well. Anyone think Lot 31 parking passes will be re-sold? Of course they will. Big $$.
The re-sellers are taking the risk, DIA gets their money and it's a more consistent or known flow of cash. Once market price for seating is establish, if prices are low in areas, Illinois can always raise ticket prices next year in certain sections and/or possibly even certain rows in certain sections. Or aisle seats, they seem extremely popular. Illinois guarantees your seat, not the price you'll pay. Fun Times.

Scalpers are already posting tickets. It's unfair to people who've already had tickets, like where and who they sit by. A one-time donation being the deciding factor on points was awful.
It's not a one time donation. People that have contributed over the long haul still have their points accumulating. They could get leapfrogged if their membership level is low. The solution, up your membership level. It's a good system for how current athletics work. Cash is King. Fighting it is futile. Actually fighting it is detrimental to Illinois athletics.
Players now get paid. Pay to play. Fans need to pay.

Even before reseating we could buy as many as we wanted, right? Yet many seats still went unsold. Now extended families and groups can grab a block together - one purpose of reseating was dealing with fragmentation. Of course some will be resold too, but that still achieves the priority goal of putting butts in seats.
Prices have not materially increased year-to-year, especially in real terms. Of course they will be bumped up in the future based on supply/demand, but that’s true with or without reseating. Expect prices to increase in proportion to program success. How could we expect anything else?
Recently, yes. Not long ago they did limit the number of tickets you could buy in the Ifund areas based on your membership level. Max was 8 seats.
You’re right, prices have not materially increased recently. They need to raise prices in areas that will now be easy to identify based on the data they’re collecting during this reseating. I still can’t believe they sell season tickets for $98/year. Butts in seats is what they’re after but at some point they need to extract more from their “budget” fans. You’d never get tickets like that at SEC schools and most of the B1G. Illinois, unfortunately, doesn’t have the most passionate football fan base in terms of scale.
I go April 9 for 2 tickets. Buyers still need to pay the IFund donation per ticket, so its not as if you can donate for 2 tickets and then turn around and buy 20 or 40 without donating more. However, those that knew they were going to buy 20 would be at higher level and be at the front of the line.
I also cannot see the seating map anymore after selecting yesterday. Kinda bummed as I’d like to keep an eye on it.
I donated to I fund and I'm waiting still to select. I get why they are raising money and all. However, what sucks is those that made donations although smaller did so and promoted the football program when they were not good. Now the fact that scalpers come in when the team is projected good and buy 20 seats just to flip for a buck may make them more now but if the team falters and scalpers don't want tickets in the future will others come back and support the program just to have this occur again?
I know what I'm gonna donate and if I can't get what I want then next season my 86in tv will do. I can spend money on something else. I can't go to all the games anyway and have been going since I was in 2nd grade in the mid 70s. I just like taking my 3 grandsons each year but they enjoy other things. I can always buy a boat!
If you cannot get your same seats on the west side look at the east side. I have sat in the balcony for 37 years. I wear a hat for the sun, I do not make an IFUND donation. The concessions are not great, and the band plays to the West stands but that is about all I miss. Look at Sections 204, 205, and 206. If you make an IFUND donation, look at 104, 105, and 106.
