I don't know the entire story, but does anyone feel like we missed the boat with Javon Freemon-Liberty (Valpo)?

There was a decent amount of talk about him at least transferring in after last year, but I got the impression there was a major hurdle to jump to get that to happen (it might very well have been the coaching staff not wanting to take him for all I know.)

Most posters knock on him was his 3 pt shooting, which was almost identical to last years. We needed and still need 3 pt shooters, but I would take a 19 ppg MVC guard almost any day. He would've contributed on this team next year.

I don't know if anyone follows the Big East but an old Loyalty favorite Luwane Pipkins (Bogan HS) has been averaging 20.5 pts the past 5 games for Providence and likely solidified them on the right side of the bubble.

Many many posts on here arguing whether to take Pipkins or Lovett.

surprised no one has mentioned Drew Timme. He put up 17 tonight and looked impressive doing so against St. Mary’s in the WCC tourney title game

Best of the bunch, he would look great at the four on this team.

I'll be updating my spreadsheet sometime before the tournament begins with stats through the conference tournaments. Planning on highlighting guys playing on teams in the tournament if people want to look out for them in March in non-Illini games.

I always feel like the guys we missed out on kill us head to head. Javon Pickett and EJ Liddell certainly rubbed our noses in it during our meetings this season. They both had arguably their best games of the season against us. Pickett has shot 66% from the field against the Illini.

Anyone mention Tim Finke? I think he is sitting out this season, but was certainly a guy who got a lot written about him on Loyalty couple years ago.

I just saw Tim Finke this week at Wright State who might have the most Illinois connections of any mid major in the country. Coach is Scott Nagy whose dad Dick was an assistant and a big part of the great Illini teams with Jimmy Collins, Mark Coomes and Lou Henson, and Wright State's roster had key players from Geneva, St. Charles East, St. Viator plus Northwestern transfer jordan Ash. And then Finke sitting out and i might be forgetting one more Illinois kid. When they played UIC in their conference semifinals this week, Wright State looked like the Illinois school and UIC I think only had one Illinois kid on its roster. Unfortunately, Wright State looked awful and lost by a ton to UIC. And then UIC lost in the championship game to Northern Kentucky, so no third Illinois team in the NCAAs this year with the Illini and Bradley.

Plus they had Mike LaTulip for a year.

Anybody else remember us being in on Obi Toppin? Haven't seen his name mentioned yet.

What was the name of the kid that had a bit of "controversy" when Ayo committed? I remember debate about whether Underwood pulled his offer because Ayo conditioned it for his commitment.

Talen Horton-Tucker?

Played 1 season for Iowa State then declared for the draft. Picked in the 2nd round by the Lakers, has spent the vast majority of this season in the G-League, where he is averaging 18 points, 6 boards, and 4 assists per game. Played 5 minutes over two games with the NBA club in December.

But Mark Smith was terrible in that game v Miznoz.

I wonder if he wishes he had stayed in school? Seriously i do. That is why i am curious about Ayo since most dont even see him being selected at all.

Rubbed our noses in what, though? We offered them. They said no. Why on Earth would they hold a grudge?

Watching 2003 McDonald’s all American game just imagining how good we would have been with Charlie Villanueva.

What is even worse is googling 2003 game roster and seeing that he is listed as attending Illinois that next fall.
