Former Illini Curt Lovelace charged with murder in wife's 2006 death

A Quincy attorney was indicted Wednesday on one charge of first-degree murder by an Adams County grand jury.

Curtis T. Lovelace, 45, of 2025 Maine, was taken into custody without incident at 12:15 p.m. Wednesday on Vermont between Sixth and Seventh streets.

The charge stems from the Feb. 14, 2006, death of his wife, 38-year-old Cory D. Lovelace, in their home at 1869 Kentucky. A death investigation was conducted by the Quincy Police Department, and her death was ruled undetermined by a coroner's jury. The results of the autopsy performed came back with the cause of death undetermined.

Was he a star? I don't remember him. He would be right in my time frame. I am just slightly older. Was he even a starter for Illinois?

I wonder why the case was reopened in 2014. Political?
"An initial autopsy on the 38-year-old's body was inconclusive, but subsequent pathology tests of the cremated body and photographic evidence determined that the mother of four died from suffocation." Would love to hear that evidence.

How does one perform pathology tests on a cremated body? Or were the tests run before cremation?

I've been following the Quincy Herald-Whig's reporting of this trial. Yahoo fail. The pathologists looked at earlier reports and photos of the deceased.

All in all, from the brief reports of the trial I read, the case seems pretty weak. Seems like the initial detective could be convicted of not doing a very good job, but I didn't read enough that moved me beyond a reasonable doubt. Case is in the hands of the jury now.
