Did he really have a "booger sugar" problem here? I do not recall ever hearing that.
You know you’re right, that was poor sourcing on my part and unfair to post something that wasnt fact.

My bad.

At least one concussion certainly happened during a game (not from being drunk as this list claims)... I can remember hearing the sound of his head hitting the floor over the crowd (and other) noise
I was at the game (technically scrimmage I guess) with my parents. We were sat pretty far back in the 200 level and still heard the thump loud and clear, and it got a very loud, audible gasp from my mom. That was also when Trent hurt his shoulder, and IIRC, both injuries happened around 2 minutes into the game.

The 2021 Iowa game was on BTN last night and Curbelo was on the floor for most of the last 10 minutes. A good reminder that was just part of the team and a very good 6th man. Whether it was the concussion, off the court stuff, or whatever, something changed after that season.

Obviously I don’t know how much the concussion impacted his personality/actions, so could certainly be a contributing factor. But I think it could just be as simple as he doesn’t have the personality/demeanor to handle rough times. How often had he been forced to face adversity on the court? Concussion impacts his play some and he doesn’t have the mental tools to deal with things effectively. Throw in liking to party and enjoy the trappings of what his early success has brought him, and that’s a bad recipe. Seems like he could benefit from plenty of good counseling. I was never as high on him as many were on here, but no doubt he has/had talent. Hope he figures it out.

So do lots of other rumors about other players, remember everything on the
internet us true, and that includes rumors on this board,

In his freshman years here andi in the preseason predictions for his second year, all pre-concussion, he was a generational talent with the basketball, a potential All American, certainly all BG.
That is not rumor.
No one can ever erase those facts about Curbelo

Before you start challenging my “facts”, lest you forget, here is a screen shot from fightingIllini.com

Can you imagine what his NIL value would have been. His jersey would be in the rafters, hung right side up.

Let’s play a game… top 8 man rotation of all current and former Illini.

Here’s mine:

Morez
Ivisic
Hawkins
Miller
KJ

Riley
Goode
Boswell

Finding the right 3 was tough. I feel like Hawkins can actually shut down the position really well on Defense and with him and Ivisic on the perimeter our big man shooting/passing would be phenomenal. Riley and Goode back up the position with different skill sets.

I have to assume you mean all current and former Illini still playing in college right? Hadn't really followed Miller and was surprised to see him in there, but yeah he's having a good year. Keeping Dain out seems wrong, but not sure where you'd fit him in with an 8-man.

Yea Dain was the toughest Cut

Yea that's what I meant.

Dain was a tough cut, but assuming Hawkins gets minutes at the 4, keeping Dain gives you 4 bigs, and that is probably one too many. It was either Dain or Morez for me. I went for the toughness/rebounding/slashing over the post game.

Since we are keeping a bunch of Freshman, I went older with Miller/Boswell/goode to add experience and shooting options (Goode, Miller) and Defense (boswell)

Sorry if too apparent or wtvr... but is everything he mentions true?
I can't speak to his stuff with the Puerto Rican National Team, but all the college stuff is accurate to my recollection. The only thing I'd add is that it seemed like head trauma (concussions) and a weed habit that made it worse led to at least some of his behavior.

It's also worth noting that some of the insiders have hinted that he's always had a screw loose and the concussions/weed made it worse.

I have long suspected that Curbelo’s extended “concussion protocol” was actually more disciplinary than health related. I have no proof of this, but upon reflection, it seems the more logical conclusion.

I don't like blaming the concussion stuff. It's normal for a kid to be happy and jolly enough when he's playing well but then start having attitude when what's going on the court (including off due to injury) is not what he'd hope for. Unless he suffered so traumatic a brain injury that he shouldn't have been playing any kind of sport competitively, I think it's just young man that continued to make bad decision after bad decision.

He has really been playing well the last 5 games. The announcers said he was averaging about 18 points a game over that time period. Could have really used him the last 10 games or so.
The minutes would have been between Dain and Morez. Not saying Morez is better.
