Former Illini in College Hoops

In fairness to Andre, there's a decent chance I would've been tossed after that as well. The refs not calling a foul there despite the absurd level of contact leading to a turnover would put that crew on the B10 short list for replacement refs. Kid's clearly not ok though. It's a shame considering where freshman Curbelo was tracking- sad stuff to be honest considering how much potential he had coming into college.

Stolen from elsewhere: After going 4-0 in the 2021 Big East Tournament, Georgetown has now won 4 conference games in the \~3 years since. Their 4-51 record includes 3 wins against DePaul.
Wow that’s worse than Oregon State. I think they’re 12-49 against Pac 12 teams since their E8 season and 2-40 overall away from their home court.

I’m with you brother. How could the refs miss that? Is there no accountabilty with these guys? Maybe it’s like burger flippers - if you show up most days you keep the job?

Adam Miller had an efficient 16 pt night game last night is ASU's loss to Arizona. Didn't do much else outside of the scoring. He's gotten a raw deal with respect to the teams he's been on since he left the orange and blue. But, that was his decision and he has to accept that

Illinois 2020 recruiting class was ranked 16th nationally on 247, headlined by Adam Miller (35) and Andre Curbelo (61).

Coleman Hawkins was 185th.

Dang, that is pretty telling. That was a good recruiting class by the way. Curbelo and Miller both with some rotten luck in terms of injuries and concussions but have showed flashes of good play this season

He dun messed up bigly. It's not a raw deal when you decided to give yourself a raw deal. It's just bad decisionmaking.

Curbelo with 25 points last night....and 0 assists. How does that happen with a great passer? He also had 5 turnovers.

Split the difference. Bad decision to transfer. Raw deal to tear your ACL the moment you get to your new place
Not just bad but nonsensical. He was a starter! Not like a Podz / minutes situation where he was buried on the bench. AM was not our 'featured' player, but he certainly was a big part of that team.

I may get admonished by the "they're just kids / he's only 18 / brains don't fully develop until mid-20s" crowd, but he needed to trust his own gut more and his mom's and handlers' guts less. I realize AM and I likely grew up in different environments, but early teens is when I stopped treating everything my folks said as gospel and by late teens virtually all decision-making was mine. And that's not a knock on my parents or their choices, I just figured it was time to be responsible for my own decisions and consequences.

You must have been far more mature than my 17 year old.

Good for you. It's the way it should be in my opinion. Adolescence is a made up time period that was developed in the last 70 years or so. It's been a goal of mine to make sure my kids are ready for adulthood at 16, if they had to be on their own. I've got a 15 year old now, and I'm feeling pretty good about it.

But it's definitely not common for young people to grow up that fast, so it's worth keeping it mind.

I know that may have come across as preachy, apologies if so.

I guess I feel strongly in AM's case because he already had a year under his belt. So I feel he had a wealth of experience and knowledge that a high school junior or senior first choosing schools / basketball environments would not have. And everything I have read on Loyalty is that he was happy here but mom and (presumably) handlers were not. Just wish his own feelings had prevailed as I think he and we would have done very well together.

Didn't take it that way.

Not really a thread for this but figured this is the closest thing.

Anyway, I was in a grocery store and happened by a shelf with some clearance items. Bunch of random stuff but some Basketball cards caught my eye.

3rd back I got this absolute beaut:

Also yes those are Illini shorts I'm wearing 😁

He ain't going to the league. Might as well come home and be the prodigal son.
