Friday night B1G football starting in 2017

I really hate this idea. I guess the B1G had to do it in order to get the TV money, but I question how any team can have an even close to full stadium, outside of the teams that have already opted out (PSU, OSU, Mich). The other issue that I struggle with is who'll even watch these games on Friday night??? Friday night has by far the fewest eyeballs on TV screens, which just means lower viewership. There's a no reason why almost no network puts new episodes on TV shows on Friday.

I understand it for TV networks, as the draw of a football game will be incrementally better than whatever else they would put on, but it'll mean fewer people overall will watch B1G games any given week.

Some will complain about this and have a variety of very good reasons to do so.

I, on the other hand, am a one-issue voter and this means less 11AM Big Ten football, so I am all for it.

Yes. Any game time that isn't 11 in the morning is a good thing.

Oh yeah, I don't think anyone would propose new SF games beyond the two Northwestern ones currently on the schedule.

It's probably a bad idea for attendance, but I like the fact that Illinois will probably be the CFB game to watch when they play on a Friday.

As a season ticket holder, I don't like the idea at all - it probably means at least taking off from work early to go to a game, and even then, it eliminates the chance to tailgate.

It might work in a place like Madison or Lincoln, where you've got more population in the area (and a much more interested fanbase in general). But at Illinois, especially given what we'll probably be putting on the field next year? A Friday night might look like that Penn State game crowd from a couple of years ago.

The problem with that is that this seems like an attempt to put the B1G in a spotlight when cfb doesn't have one in Fridays from week 2 to 13. The Friday after Thanksgiving is usually pretty busy.

As long as our Friday night games are on the road, especially Madison or Evanston, I like the TV exposure. For home games it will be a disaster.

I am in the minority but I think it might. Friday night games after finishing classes for the week to me would be a ton better than shaking off a hangover for a 11 am game the next morning.

I will love Friday night road games and hate Friday night home games. Friday night games in general feel like a Northwestern-y thing.

That's true. The kids don't go out to the bars til pretty late these days. I could see them doing big happy hours before a Friday night game too.

That doesn't mean I'm for it though. High School teams play on Friday nights...let's not give the Rittenbergs of the world (or blogosphere, whathaveyou) the excuse to make that comparison...

When was the last time we played a Thursday night game? For some reason I kind of like those because you have the Thursday night game, then High School football on Friday then couch potato city for the weekend games.
