Mizzou AD confirms #Illini want to restart football series.

Sterk: Illinois is very interested in restarting a football series. Probably would have to be after 2021 given current schedule commitments.

Please oh please let Miznoz continue to stumble to nothing while we climb. That's the only way I want this series back.

Not sure how I feel about this...

On Russillo and Kannell today they both (and their SEC analyst) were talking about how there is no incentive for conferences to have 9 in-conference games. Apparently the playoff committee puts no stock in the number of conference games (not that we are playoff contenders). However, why make it harder on ourselves by playing 9 conference games then having a tough non-con opponent. We need to be smart about scheduling and try to set us up for consistent success. Granted, this year certainly didn't play out as I imagined it was planned x years ago when the schedule was made

And sure, Mizzou isn't all that great right now but we are talking 2021. Who knows what they will be then.

On the other hand, as a fan I really loved going to that game. The atmosphere was always very exciting.

I think this is a good series that we should continue.
I know it didn't work out for us very well before, but just like the Braggin Rights BB game, we should continue it longer term. Lovie said he liked the idea....

But please just don't make it the first game of the season... Please....

I like the idea. We need to step up and be competitive. We have 5 years to get there.

On a related note, Goodyear is playing the hell out of a commercial all over the sports channels featuring Missouri scoring a touchdown on us. Fitting.

The one thing to maybe consider, it's possible that there are one or more huge money donors for whom the Mizzou series is a pet issue. It's possible. There is a dollar amount at which this would be a good idea. But it would be a gold-plated South Enzdone-type amount.

The interests of a football program's long term sustainable success are adverse to the week-to-week matchup intrigue for its fans. That's just the way it is and there is no dancing around it.

Just have it be a champaign - Columbia series. Will make it more fun for us

The level of competition hasn't been great in this series but its still a great rivalry for the fans just like the Bragging Rights game. What is better than two states who's fans love to hate each other going head to head?

This should be a great rivalry. Play 2 easier opponents and Mizzou as our power 5. Champaign for 2, Columbia for 2 and 1 in St. Louis every 5 years.

I'd rather just do it home and home. Especially if we're good with our new stadium. Should be rocking.

Not finishing 5-7. ;)

Hopefully 7-5 is a "bad" year for us moving forward.

Would like to see us play Mizzou more often. If we're going to play non P5 games I'd like to see more games vs Illinois St. and NIU. Illinois State isn't awful. NIU has fallen off a bit.

The incentive is $$$$. Instead of playing Florida A&M, the school plays better competition, which means more gate, concession, and apparel revenue in the stadium, plus greater incentive for ESPN to put the game on their main channel or during a better time slot. You also don't have to pay another school $900,000+ to visit.

Would be unconventional, but would like to see a Illinois-Missouri matchup every two years (switching between Columbia and Champaign). Give a year in-between for the teams to find another opponent to maintain their record.

Aren't FCS opponents going away?

Aren't FCS opponents going away?

Yup, but not before our 2018 Western Illinois home game got grandfathered in! :thumb:

Chapter 5 of my upcoming nonfiction epic "Mike Thomas Did Everything Right But One" is about what an artful symphony of cupcakery MT put together for our future schedules when get got wind of the future of scheduling regulations.

'18, '19 and '20 are a work of art. And oh by the way, those are the years where we're banking on the Lovie era taking flight.

It would be a criminal act against Illinois Football to screw that up. Absolutely criminal.

2018 is a year we could really do something. We have just about as easy a B1G schedule as we'll ever get.

#22
I would have no beef with it in this case, but the first open year on the schedule is 2027. That's post-Lovie in all likelihood, and post the careers of any recruits currently out of middle school.
Schedules can be changed. Games can be moved or canceled. And it's not unreasonable to play Mizzou the same year as Kansas or Duke.

I don't know if @Nebraska and @Wisconsin is super easy, but I think we'll be competing for at least a trip to Indy by 2018.

Reasonability is in the eye of the beholder.

It is inarguably a downgrade to the projection of wins in any given year. In the position Illinois football is in, ESPECIALLY in the seasons in question, that would be total insanity. Treasonous, is the word that springs to mind.

Man I will give you credit. You definitely go for the jugular on your word usage lol
