That all said, man, I'm catching up on the pregame thread, and holy cow, did we somehow return to a time Beckman is coaching and Indiana is Saban Alabama, because my lord, there is no explanation for that level of pessimism. I mean, I've lived the history of this program these past 30years, and yes, it hasn't been pretty is an understatement, but I thought we put a lot of this to rest in the Citrus Bowl where we were just supposed to be happy to be there while Carolina beat us by 50. Indiana is good, no doubt, but they sure ain't the '85 Bears and they sure ain't an Oregon or OSU. Again, if we lose, we lost to a good team on the road, but all this woe is us, we're going to be run off the field stuff, we have to get over it at some point we just have to. May this week help in doing just that. Let's freakin take this one.
We have a great coach and a good team. Nobody is denying that. three of our most talented pieces on defense...specifically the secondary are missing against a team that is really good at throwing the ball. This means we are looking at having to rely on players who aren't necessarily ready for this level of pressure.

This isn't your father's Indiana football team. This Indiana team is a very good team with a really good coach, and we're playing them in their stadium. This will be an uphill battle. For us to win:

1. We will need our second string secondary guys to step up big time.

2. We need Altmeyer to find his consistency of accuracy again, particularly on those crossing routes. He's gotten away with missing a lot of easy throws recently. In this game, there's no way he's going to get the same leeway. Indiana will make us pay for throwing away easy opportunities to advance the ball on offense.

3. We need to control the line of scrimmage to make up for the skill players we're missing.

We can win this, but it won't be easy at all.

ESPN puts our win percentage chances at 37.2%. Let's make them keep shifting that all game in our favor. I trust in these Illini.

Most of the sharps in Vegas were betting on IU because of how much public money was coming in on the Illini in this one. The spread kept having to be bumped up by the sportsbooks because of it.
