I’m gonna bet these Iowa guys are surprised this is the same Illinois team - we played a better 1H than the gophers did last week, regardless of the warts

Let ‘em enjoy their fg going in to half. Hopefully we give them a battle in the 2h typical of our recent 2hs lately

Why did Lovie need to burn all 3 TO? What was the point? Here Iowa defense catch your breath

McCourt has the leg. Incredible, horrendous Lovie Smith screw-up. Unfortunately, quite common in game goof.
That distance you risk a block kick going back for 6. It wasn’t the time for a fg

He also is kicking into swirling wind and again, we only got there by throwing the ball. Running the ball in that last sequence doesn’t get us there. Before the Pi, that was a 62 yard Fg.

The error had nothing to do with play calling, it’s burning the last TO for no particular reason.

We have the Iowa squakeyes right where we want them. We’re a second half team! As Garry Allen would say “I’m right where I need to be”

54 is not ideal and we got there by throwing the football. You don’t just run the ball against stack to bleed the clock.

Yes, of course you're right. We did exactly what we should have. It worked out much better. I don't know why I tried to debate you.

Going for it was definitely the right decision. I don’t know if the play was a good call, because it never even had a chance to develop. The problem was that it seemed completely shocking to the entire offense the Iowa would blitz on the forth down. This is continually shocking to me that our offense always seems surprised to be getting blitzed on third and fourth downs.

We were prob gonna need more than 4 to win the game anyway, gotta move on!

Time for adjustments and a statement drive.

Agreed with going on 4th. Taking two timeouts allowed an all out blitz with no timeout to burn. FG that far in the cold very unlikely. Of course, taking a 15 yard sack was worse.

We didn’t, we burned a TO for no reason but if you want to run the ball there against stack, be my guest.

If we had a TO, Brandon could walked to the line, seen the set and said “We’re not ready for this” and called it.

Announcers specifically stated that at that time that there was no wind at all.........

Guys! Guys! I got it!!

We have to be down in the second half for more drama!! Now we're mad in the locker room!! Lovie is a sneaky genius!

Exactly. If we have a TO left, Brandon can come to the line and say “We don’t have the protection for this, TO” and we try it again. That’s the fatal error here, not throwing football has nothing to do with that sequence. Running the ball wouldn’t have even got us there.

That was a terrible end to the half. Illinois had the ball, two timeouts, 2nd & 2 at the Iowa 41, with 34 seconds left, and Iowa ends up with 3 points out of it.

We have rb/qb draw plays for days against this team. Looks like Coran Taylor’s the backup with how he’s lurking around the sideline huddles. Bring him in for some wildChief plays to f with their defense

After we burned that last TO for no reason, we maybe should have kicked it. I don’t see an overly positive outcome without a TO. Before that, we made the right move.

Why use back to back time-outs and then come out clueless after the timeouts. If you're going for the 1st on 4th down you want to have another time-out.

Clueless probably isn’t the right word. Just because we didn’t protect for a “0” doesn’t mean we were clueless. It did, however, mean we had no chance to adjust. We either run the play or take a DOG (Which we maybe should have done). No reason to burn that last TO.
