Gabe Jacas, our star defender and All American candidate, with 1 tackle all game so far? That is not going to impress NFL scouts. Now is the time for him to exert some leadership by example and get his teammates on defense much more involved as well. He has it in him to do this. By contrast, our offensive leader, Luke, is certainly doing his best to win this.
Have we lined Gabe up inside yet? I still think that is where he wins battles, vs on the outside. Hasn't stood out today, for sure

I hope not. And I hope it isn't as windy on the field as it is up in the 300s.
On the radio broadcast just before the half gave a weather update. Gail warning, I'm not even sure what that means, but it doesn't sound good.

We seem to tell the defensive line to play conservative when they should wreak havoc.

It seems silly to question Bret for all he's done to bring Illinois football from the complete dumpster fire to winning New Year's Day bowl games, so I guess I need to cool down and see how the second half plays out. But man, that was as frustrating end to the first half as I can remember. So stinking conservative.

Three man rushes aren't going to cut it for Gabe. They can effectively double and triple team and still have 8 seconds to throw the ball. Henry's obviously very concerned about William's legs.

My problem with this defense is that we don't have an identity. Whatever you're trying to do... you can't tackle, can't pressure, and can't cover. When you’re bad in all three areas, simply not a recipe for success.

I'm pretty sure the game plan is to just contain. In other words, give up that weapon.

The bad thing about our Dline is that Washington has lost two of their best offensive lineman for the season, and I believe one of them is their center, so their Oline should be man handled by our Dline.

I would hope so. He should be hot at his clock management and decision making on that final possession of the half. He should be hot at Kreutz for missing the easiest interception he will ever have the opportunity to make that cost us 7 points. But, most of all, he should be hot that he did not make the change at coordinator that needed to be made prior to this season. He needs to do the right thing. This program is on the cusp, and can do so much better.

im feeling this weather favors us and we can grind it out in the 4th

Problem is, Henry is just playing conservative and not rushing at all. So we aren't even trying to take advantage of their bad O-Line!

Let's go to Ollie Williams for the weather report:

While big time players need to make big time plays, our defensive scheme isn't giving him a shot to be disruptive
