This game makes me a bit nervous. Colgate is a solid midmajor that'll give you a game if you don't jump them from the opening tip. It'd be easy to show up sleepwalking considering you're coming off playing ranked teams in big environments as well as finals week with Braggin Rights as our next game. And that’s not even mentioning students are going to be offcampus. This can be a nightmare game if we want it to be. And in fairness, just looking around the NCAA multiple ranked teams are dropping a game like this against much worse competition. Hoping the upperclassmen experience comes through and our players come out jumping in this one.

I know some people want a big win, but this one is a just get out of here with the win type of game for me right now. Thinking this one will be a Domask game.

Completely agree. These December games have always seemed to be a challenge in the Underwood era. I'm worried about the Mizzou game as well because of this. Just want to get these next two in the win column. Go Illini!

Meaning December in general or just meaning we seem to struggle in the games we're significantly favored? Last year we blew out both of the teams we played in December that weren't top 50 matchups by 25-35 points. Then the year before that we only had one December game against a sub-50 team and beat them by 60 points. So I dunno if its a thing or not? 🤷‍♂️ Last year was quite a roller coaster of course, but I know the year before that we did really well in December, overall.

Spread is +16.5. I’m predicting a slow start where Colgate is up by 6-10 points in the first five minutes. We’ll have it basically tied by halftime. This board will crucify whoever is playing worst out if CH, DD, TR (but only because he’s forced out of position). Then we dominate the second half and win by 14-19 points, because Vegas always knows.

Good question. It was just more of a feeling, so I just looked it up. Last year, we lost to Penn State, Maryland and Mizzou in December. In 2021-22, we just lost to Arizona, but in 2020-21 we lost 3 games in December again, including Mizzou. Then in 2019-20 we lost 3 December games, including Miami at home (ugh), Maryland and Mizzou. It just seems that we lose momentum in December for whatever reason (finals, etc.), then have a great January.

Edit: before that, it was just kind of ugly in general.

Ah, yeah, that jives. It seems we're losing to ranked teams, etcetera, in December. I think our non-con typically ratchets up in December. I'm not too worried about taking care of Colgate today, but Missouri can always be a surprisingly tough one even if they're having a down year just because of the whole rivalry element.
