Game Thread: Illinois vs Kent State

Week 1 and I’m already ready to leave at halftime, doesn’t bode well.

Lovie shaves at halftime to fire up the team and Illini win by two touchdowns. Calling it first.

Awful: Everyone else, including Dudek

I am holding out hope that these suspensions were only for a half of the first game and we have some of our best players back for the rest of the game.

This is a nightmare. Defense is terrible. Offense is terrible. Special teams are terrible. Playing calling is terrible. Has there been anything that could be described as better than terrible?

Kent St returns alot of production so I knew it would be tougher than expected. The suspensions certainly don't help. However, those things can't explain the worst half of football I have ever witnessed.

Woody Barrett is the QB AJ Bush wishes he was. Bush isn’t reading and reacting fast enough, and Barrett is.
Not too surprised by this, considering Barrett was a top 5 dual threat QB coming out of HS.
If Bush can make quicker decisions, we’ll score points.
Not sure if we can stop Barrett from scoring though.

A lot of production? This team averaged 12.8 ppg last year.
The suspensions and injuries especially hurt us since this team is thin as paper.
No excuse for letting these guys control both sides of the football though. To me it’s definitely Barrett making the difference. I’ve been impressed with his decision making and mobility.

This is a gut punch unlike I’ve experienced as an Illini fan.

I don’t have the long view that many of you who have been fans since the 70s, but today is the first time I’ve ever felt that we may never get there.
