Game Thread: Illinois vs Purdue

[BWBW]

That sinking feeling...

[IllinistrandedinHouston]

WHY DID YOU GO FOR IT THERE??

A fg would make it a 1 score game.

[Pikeillinifan]

None of this makes any sense. We punt when we should have gone for it, then we skip the points when we should have kicked.

For a great coach, Bret makes some very odd calls.

[Illini4Christ]

What is going on with taking the points off the board? We took four points off the board last week and three today?

[RockfordIllini]

How do we not take the points down 2 scores?

Just an awful day all around.

[illiram]

Two score game and we went for it? It's official, our coaches lack logic and intelligence. Take the 3 points. WTH

[Juju]

Idc what the eventual post-game excuse is. That's an INSANE call to go for it on 4th and 4 in the red zone. Even if you score a TD, it's still a 1-possesion game. TAKE THE FIELD GOAL!!!

[LouHenson]

Sorry Bert that was not an educated play at all. You have to take the 3?

[Clngpl94]

There goes all the momentum we've built up...SMH

[Oracle21]

You are down 9…how do you not kick a FG there? You will need one at some point

[illini80]

That felt like the ball game

[CV Illini]

You ought to be here in person…

This

[RonC]

This is pathetic. Twice in the red zone and nada.

[TheFlyingIllini1317]

Lunney this season on 3rd and short. Run into a wall of people, incomplete. Throw on 3rd! All Wrs had 1 and 1 vs a bad secondary, our pass runs have been obvious

Then we don't kick. This is a disaster

I can't understand what hes thinking here

[Illinois_2_AZ]

We should have tried a short pass on 3rd and 3. Instead we run it straight ahead, lose a yard, and try to throw it on 4th and 4.

[thehass]

I bet the recruit prospects are impressed.

[OB positive]

Great play calling until the last two. Houser doesn't have it today. Even if that ball got past the line there's no way it was getting to the reciever.

[D1959]

Not taking 3 there was completely ignorant

[PleaseMakeABowlGame]

Why do we love throwing away points?

Every. Single. Game.

[Da88]

Bret is safe.

Yes. For now. But we've been here before. Turner, Zook, a couple really good seasons followed by a crash. You cannot lose to an awful Purdue team after two great seasons. If the NIL doesn't come together to get us competitive next year, it's a down hill slide.

I don’t know if there’s a fourth down I would have gone for it on that we punted this game, but I for sure would have kicked the FG there. Weird not to even.

I think Bret was pissed at the play calling by Lunney so he decided to go for it on 4th.
