Apparently our defense and rebounding has gone to the same place our 3 point shooting went. Another terrible half. Will we ever live up to our talent?

TSJ 3 points and MM with none. And we are only down 3 points.
It really isn't. Our three attempts are low quality shots and our players haven't shown themselves to be consistent three point shooters. That combination leads to low 3pt FG percentage.
But, but, but... Threes are worth THREE and twos are only worth TWO! That's just math.

Absolutely, he had no control there. He was not going to make the shot so yes bailed out by a foul.. and then hits only 1 FT. Got to be better.
Watching the unintelligent way we play offense makes my head hurt! Time to stop pretending we are an “elite” shooting team and drive the lane and get the ball in the post. The coaching and execution baffle me.

After this much of the season, we are what we are. Obviously, we aren't going change. I was really hoping we would start playing better as the season went on. Still a chance, but I'm really starting to get concerned.
At this point in the season, the continuing preference to jack up one bad 3 after another for the entire half, especially when Rutgers only elite big man is sitting out, is totally on the coaching staff. It's like Illinois is trying to play into Rutgers' hand. It's like playing poker, and betting big every hand confident that the inside straight is going to finally fill itself in.
I hate the drop coverage. The mid range shot has been wide open since Michigan St. Brad these are not tough 2's those are open shots.
In the most important game of the season to date, and at home, the play of this team has been disappointing in so many ways. Getting embarrassed in rebounding, turnovers, steals, and especially shooting from the arc. 1-12!!!!!!! Thank goodness DD came to play.
That said, I like this team's ability to compete if they can just use some common sense at the offensive end and focus on defense to eliminate blunders on that end. This game can be easily won. They will go to Omoruyi early so the double needs to be executed quickly...we will know soon if there is a plan other than to let him score at will.
