I saw the entire game between them and Baylor and my thoughts are this Virginia is more athletic and more offensively talented than the past several iterations we're used to. They still play very strong defense, but this year they are also lights out shooting it behind the arc (shooting 52% as a team!!!!, with 4 of their top 6 starters shooting over 50%!!!!!). And it's not small sample size either, 44% of the shots they put up are from behind the arc! So we are going to have to be very very very aware of their inside out game and swing passes and guard that arc with a lot of intensity. This Virginia team looks legitimately good and thus far looks like a contender to win a National Championship. That said it's very early in the season and a long way to go, and they're not going to hit at a 50% clip from 3 all season. An intriguing game and as Galloping Ghost points out, a game that mimics the NCAA tourney with just one day rest as well as on the road against a good opponent. I haven’t seen them play and all I know about this version of Virginia is what I’ve read on here. Interested to see if we can speed them up and how RJ and Ty play after a forgettable 1st game. Hopefully we don’t need a career game from Shannon to get the win.
The two weaknesses I really noticed against Baylor was they struggled with the press when Baylor applied it, and they seemed a little slow to keep up with Baylor when they slashed to the basket. So if we're going to beat this team, we need to guard the three, get a solid press going whenever we make a basket, and TSJ and Skyy are going to need to have solid games for us.
