Posted this in the pregame thread, but it closed.

Regardless of if this doesn’t matter one bit for our NCAAT seed, I think it is still a very important game for the program. Look at the last four seasons laid out like this, with the regular season champ(s) listed and then the BTT champ listed … it’s a nice visualization of who the players have been:

2021: Michigan, ILLINOIS
2022: ILLINOIS, Wisconsin, Iowa
2023: Purdue, Purdue
2024: Purdue, ILLINOIS/Wisconsin

Hanging a third Big Ten banner (of some kind) in four seasons - especially when you consider the shenanigans that prevented yet another one in 2021! - would be a nice statement to reinforce that Illinois is where recruits should go if they want to compete for Big Ten championships.

Of course we want the NCAAT success this year. However, the opportunity is right in front of us to beat a very good Wisconsin program for the EIGHTH time in a row en route to celebrating a championship on national TV … that is essentially important, I don’t care what anyone says!!

I know it’s just a visualization exercise, but having Purdue win the BTT this year makes that chart look like a changing of the guard after 2022. Having the Illini win the BTT this year makes us look like the other top dog in the conference. I’m pumped, and I hope the team is, too!!

Coleman Hawkins will be the only Illini with 2 tournament championships, I believe. Need to check the 2005 era

Championships of any kind are special and rare. Every single dude in the conference put on a jersey this week with the goal of getting a win today. Banners are immortal. This team has been so much fun, it deserves to be remembered.

House divided today with my little brother. Dad is from Rantoul, moved to wisconsin and married my mother and all of my family defected years ago to the badgers. This house is gonna be rockin today! I-L-L!!

Avoid Game Thread at any cost. Find another way just to follow score. Game Thread is focused more on (alleged) terrible calls against us now that Bardo is not broadcasting.

He still pulls for the Illini just to see me happy lol. Visited my grandma in Rantoul before the purdue game, boy has that town gone downhill. Sad really.

The Coach of the Year award is great, but great coaching is about a greater body of work. I’m looking forward to the day Brad finally gets the recognition he so clearly deserves.
