Games Thread - The National Championship

A reliable source from the North Pole told me before the game that Fletcher's heart is no longer in basketball and he will be having a press conference immediately after the game to announce his intention to forego all remaining elgibility and enter dental school

Fletcher is completely overrated, just like Gillis and most of the Purdue plodders. Edey, Smith, and Jones were their best players in the tourney. He wouldn't have so many wide open shots if everyone wasn't collapsing the paint on Edey

UCONN pretty much said go ahead and try to get 2's all game. Purdue only made one three pointer on 7 attempts! At least Illinois tried to hit some threes in second half. Just a very poor gameplan from Purdue in 2nd half when down double digits. Not sure why they refused to pass from Edey out for 3's.
I don’t think not shoring threes was part of the game plan, but wven when Edey kicked it out, guys shot poorly and looked unready and scared to shoot when the opportunities were there. I agree the UConn game plan was well executed.

The moment was never too big for UCONN. Purdue just like Illinois had a couple players fade a bit as the moment got bigger
Agreed. UCONN did what they did all tourney. Put a blitz on early in second half, and then get cheap transition baskets when the opposition got slightly down. There were some noticeable defensive breakdowns early in 2nd half, and Purdue never recovered. It is honestly surprising that this UCONN team got beat twice by double digits in Big East play. They were that elite.

Purdue got enough out of Edey and Smith but practically nothing out of everyone else. Jones got in foul trouble and Loyer gave them nothing. Same story as the Illini game. Of the top 10 players on the court UConn had 5 of the top 7 with only Edey and Smith cracking through. The other 3 for Purdue don’t compare to the bottom 3 of UConn.

Couple of shots of Coleman's face during One Shining Moment. They showed UConn dominating the Illini a bit and a shot of Rodgers in tears during the second "that moment's gone". Shannon snubbed entirely (that diving play against Morehead is March Madness personified). Likely too "controversial" for the TV people.
Yea, they weren't ever going to show TSJ in One Shining Moment. That was predictable yet understandable. But, that dive in the Morehead St game personified the heart and will of a champion. No shots of Domask either which was odd IMO

Edey had a very silent 37 points. He went a very long stretch late in the first half to around the middle of second half without scoring. That is when the game was lost.

The supporting cast for Purdue was virtually extinct. You are right...Loyer literally went scoreless. Outside of Edey and Smith, Purdue only scored 11 points. That is insane!

Honestly think you might be giving Smith too much credit. He wasn't bad but you're not going to win many titles when that is what your 2nd best player goes 4-12 for 12 pts(thought Smith struggled after the Gonzaga game).

Edey was the best player on the court. UConn had the next 6 best players (Diarra was great in limited minutes).

I think Braden Smith is a good player but I don't think he'll be first team all big ten next season. Edey gives him a lot of room to operate that will be gone next year. Loyer I think it's kinda trash (and he looks like a puppet)

The cowards didn't even put in shirtless Brad celebrating in.

Did get a clip of Ty and two Coleman shots but wish it would have been the steal attempt against ISU.

Not surprisingly no Shannon highlights(the steal and dunk play or dive against Morehead st would have worked) but did get a clip of him in a Clingan highlight.

Not many fouls in this game so far. 13total fouls and a combined 7 foul shots. No real foul trouble. Purdue with only 2 three pointers and that is key.
Kinda like when we played UConn. No fouls called against UConn - but if the game was correctly officiated, half the team would have fouled out before half time

Domask should have gotten the and-1 against ISU.

Before we officially turn the page tomorrow (or today), what a freaking year.

29 wins, solo second in the b10, big ten tournament title, and an elite 8 loss to one of the best college basketball teams in the last 20 years. This program is back to where it needs to be, now to take it a step further and be at the final 4 next year
