I was about to post that this is only the second time this millennium that #1 and #2 have met in the Championship Game, but then I saw that Purdue is ranked #3. 2005 really was an extra hyped matchup.

Yes it is. I remember him judging the Eddie Gaedel Memorial Sports Trivia Bowl at IMPE when I was a student.
