if uconn wins then nothing really changes. they have weird voodoo magic on their side and are the constant anomaly.

if Michigan wins (with a player they poached from our team) then I have to hear those insufferable fans go from a 9 on the annoying scale to an 11! and now I can't even use the hey we beat you 9 times in a row as a defense. this was the worst case scenario. the big ten getting a ring would have only been cool if Nebraska did it this year.

I mean, it kind of would have been cool if we did it this year šŸ˜‚

But yeah, Michigan is just the worst. Their fans think they are a blue-blood in basketball and football. But really they're a team that goes in waves in both sports. Michigan hasn't been nearly as relevant as their fanbase likes to believe since the 90's. Michigan breaking the BIG championship drought in both sports is sickening.

To be fair, the Michigan fans that I was around were not actively rooting against Illinois during the game on Saturday, so that may have resulted in me gaining a little more respect for the Michigan fanbase. But, overall, was just looking to see a competitive game and UCONN made it that. Can't say the same for Arizona. So, good job by UCONN for fighting hard and having made the final worth watching even if it wasn't the prettiest game to watch

As much as I dislike what Morez to the Illini Nation, we have to finally admit that he made the right choice for himself not just monetarily but also with the program he decided to go to.

For me the lesser of two evils was served by this game, so I'm at least a little bit happy. Stops the "Big Ten has not won since 2000" talk
The Big Ten did a great job this year, in the tournament and elsewhere. Consistently represented in the top 10. Almost half the Sweet Sixteen, half of the Elite 8, half the Final Four, National Champ. Dispatched some very good teams in the tournament and made it look easy. Not the final outcome Illinois fans wanted, but we played some very tough teams in conference. Feel like our stock is rising as a group, and expect the competition in the regular season to remain at a high level, which will hopefully keep our stock high.

I don't understand any Illini fan in their right mind wanting Hurley and UConn to win. Two teams I will never want to win are UConn and Duke ... never.
I was definitely rooting for a UConn loss. They knocked us out twice of late. Of course Michigan once as well, probably when we had our best shot. Hurley is the tiebreaker.

But I get the sentiment on both sides.

I've never exactly understood "hating" a team, unless them winning does your team harm (like for example, we needed Wisconsin to lose to Nebby back in 2022). Just hate them for the sake of it -- I know I'm in the minority, but it's never applied to me.

That said, I DO believe who you root for should depend on what benefits your team. In this case, Michigan winning it all no doubt helps the perception of the conference, which in turn helps Illinois. However, there could be a slight argument that this might lend Michigan to leap us in recruiting efforts.

All in all, it is what it is. I'm more than satisfied with a F4 birth... regardless of who wins it and who we lose to.
I guess I don't understand not hating Iowa.

Not many would have thought a few months ago that a basketball school would win the football national title and a football school would win the basketball national title.

That old Sports World is gone forever. NIL and The Portal changed that. Now, Everybody has a chance at Everything. Which is exciting -- way more so than when there were always just a handful of privileged programs that got all the good recruits and all the good TV and media attention -- the same old and tired names out there year after year. Before all this there were programs that didn't have a prayer to see great success. Now, you don't need to seek divine favor but just have good people putting your roster together and a thick wallet. And also... a little luck along the way to goose your success along.

The modern B1G is best B1G

I feel like Illinois is in the middle of this mosh pit and we may well wind up on top.
I just wish the 100M of Gies money was going to hoops instead of football.

I’m good with where Illinois football is now. I just want one basketball national championship in my lifetime. I’m starting to understand how Cubs fans felt prior to 2016.

I didn't watch the game and probably never will.....I'm sure the majority of posters here know of my hatred of scUM.....I will NEVER cheer for a scUM victory in any sporting event.......NEVER.............and I will NEVER cheer for the traitor to succeed in his sporting career....NEVER................

MY Illini got to the Final Four after a 21 year hiatus.....I fully expect MY Illini to return again in the next 1-3 years...................

I really really really do.....................

Silver lining is now we can finally put the BIG hasn’t won’t a basketball championship since 2000 narrative to bed.

And now that the lid is off, why not us?

I thought I was gonna root for Fichigan last night - rising tides lifts all B1G boats or something, but I happened to be in a bar and couldn’t, because their fans were being a bunch of obnoxious jackasses. Hopefully will never be in a spot actively hoping a Hurley team will win ever again.

UConn lost the same way we did. The shots they needed to fall just didn't fall. Both threes and shots in the paint. It was a good strategy to shorten possessions against juggernauts like Illinois and Michigan but I think Michigan had the better defensive horses to disrupt UConn's flow and also got a more favorable whistle.
Exactly. And glad to see it happen to them.

Against scUM they shot 31% from the floor and 27% on 3's. Our game against them we shot 34% from the floor and 23% on 3's. In our game vs. UConn they shot 36% on 3's. If we had matched their 36% 3-point shooting percentage it would have been a tied game. It just wasn't our time. 🄲

I only watched the last 4 minutes when my son interrupted my viewing of the 2004 Masters to watch the end on our big tv instead of his smaller one. Hurley is the biggest jag ever. Challenging a call for an elbow in the last 20 seconds down like 7. What an utter douchebag of a human being. Take your loss like a man Geno, Jr. And the ScUM player was only flailing cause the UConn defender was fouling the crap out of him.

It was less so this year, but the NCAA tourney annually is one of the most anti climactic events in sports. It starts with the 4 day orgasmic experience of hoops & by the end its the same collection of big boy programs that make it to the end. And the final four games as a general rule suck since they play in stadiums 5 times bigger than what they usually play in during the season. Just a poor product for the most part at the end.
