I don't think it is jealousy but I do believe there is a deep seated political ideology that is pervasive at many universities and an arrogant, holier than thou, "we'll show them" attitude that goes with it. Like most government workers, these people don’t know what the word “risk” is. How long would they last in the private sector where they could get fired for not doing their job on any day of the week? Or laid off in a recession? Most view themselves as “political activists” as part of their job. How screwed up is that? How many hours a week do they toil away at the lectern? How many weeks off do they get in a year - not including the dreaded “Sabbatical”.
No it was a UI faculty group. The university then responded by saying they would review and possibly revise the criteria for acceptance but I haven’t seen anything yet
Mr Kahn offended the Faculty Senate because his Flex N Gate plant in Urbana chose to resist a union organizing effort. This was entirely legal, but in some quarters is regarded as immoral and unethical.
It’s quite possible Mr Kahn’s efforts to discourage unionization saved the Urbana plant and his people’s jobs. If enough of them really wanted a union, they would certainly have one. I’m sure the Faculty Senate didn’t see it in those terms however. Small people punish successful people for political reasons.

Has the Athletic department thought about switching to Pivot Performance turf like Ohio State just installed? It looks to not have those ugly black infill pellets. Those pellets look awful on tv and can get into the players eyes, thus the reason many players wear plastic shields on their facemasks. If we can’t get natural grass this looks to be a better alternative visually and for player safety.
Our endzones and sidelines (anywhere there's Orange on the field) looks terrible 5 minutes into the season once players start running and tackling on that turf with those pellets. Other schools seem to not have that issue and it just makes the field look dirty and cheap.
