Creaned: The process of showing unwanted recruits and players the door. So named after Tom Crean (currently HC at Georgia) cleaned house after being hired at Indiana. Was considered unsavory at the time, although has become more common over time it seems.
Fun fact I didnā€™t know until recently, He is married to the sister of Jim and John Harbaugh.

Joined November 2006.

Everything is fine, good night!
I'll take this one. These are the final words of an account on the old Scout board that turned out to be Eric Gordon's father. This account had been posting positive comments about Illinois for quite awhile with Gordon insider knowledge despite a growing concern that Eric might decommit right before signing day. These final words came the night before he changed his commitment from us to Indiana. It wasn't fine at all lol.

Loyalty member since 2011. Lurker for awhile before that. I think I started out on the Scout board around 2004-2005. ILLINI Shox comes from the custom orange and blue ILLINI Nike Shox I had when I signed up for Scout way back then.

Growth Plates? - speculation based on the theory that future height increase of some 6'2" HS Jr can be accurately projected... a la Anthony Davis

Larry Bird's lack of Athleticism - arose as snarky comment about posters' ridiculous assessments of HS players' capabilities (good or bad)... usually after said player moved on but frequently during pre-recruitment hype

class of 85. started lurking on Brumby's IB... 2002ish?

Not a phrase, but you can't really say you're a true Illinois Loyalty member unless you've been banned at least once.

Two years ago I got a 6 month ban for trying to sell an extra Braggin Rights ticket on the wrong thread. The worst part is I couldn't comment and complain after we lost to mizzou. šŸ˜‚

I'm all about the nut punch...

Brian Cook jersey.

Supposedly, Shaun Livingston wore a Brian Cook jersey to school the day before announcing he was going to Duke. That was the first meltdown I remember, with many to come ....

A couple of nicknames, each with a common middle name:

JFG - Our former HC, hired from Ohio University
DFW - Current Illini, and son of all-time Illini great Frankie Williams

No one has defined ā€œthatā€™s so Germanā€ and after awhile just ā€˜Germanā€™??

No one has defined ā€œthatā€™s so Germanā€ and after awhile just ā€˜Germanā€™??

It is defined as a reference to Animal House when Belushi had the rant/speech and stated "was it over when the Germans bomber Pearl Harbor". It was used in reference as to when someone posted something that was old news.

I was here when posters first started using this phrase. But for the life of me I cannot remember who first tied it in to the threads and how it happened the first time.

Been heavy lurker here since 2004 ish

Joined in 2012, lurked previously, not an often poster. Used to post occasionally in the Mark Tupper? comments before I found this. When did Loyalty originate?

I believe "German" originated on Tiggerboard and migrated over.

Also, the Scheyer Face:

(That's a Maryland Fan...the story of the picture is phenomenal but I can't find it on the internets any more.)

Original Pancake House - where our head basketball coaches have historically entertained recruits on Sunday mornings to close-out a weekend commitment. (Has the tradition continued under BU?)

Loyalty After Dark probably deserves a comment or two.

I'm not much of a participant, so I won't attempt to bastardize it. (But I will speculate the true origin probably dates back to the 1960's and UofI alumnus Hugh Hefner --- and his hit show Playboy After Dark.) Experts, please take it from here........

Loyalty member since 2011, but I've had a hiatus or two when I couldn't remember my UserName/Password.

Loyalty After Dark references a poster in the Groce era, from around the 2014/15 time frame, who would provocatively drop positive Illini BB recruiting news between midnight and sunrise. Each successive post would become more outlandish, unrealistic, and pro-Illini; which of course Illini Loyalty ate up for awhile until the inevitable turn and banishment. Nowadays, it refers to a new poster who suddenly arrives with recruiting news that appears too good to be true and/or has credibility issues.

A corollary reference to this is any use of the term "barbershop" because the Loyalty After Dark poster would claim that his information was sourced from his connections down at his local barbershop. Today, it used to mock any specific source explanation that seems ridiculous (see also "hot dog vendor").

Illini Loyalty member since 2009.

ā€œWe have our point guard.ā€ In reference to the Jawun Evans recruitment. This was particularly gut wrenching after the repeated strike outs during the Groce years.

But we came full circle by having Evans, and that OSU success, bring us Underwood.

I joined in 2012 during the DJax recruitment.

You are right - the poster's "name" was "Indy Old School" or something like that.

He disappeared after Gordon betrayed Weber, the coaching staff, and ILL.

Not one yet but I'm going with " Kofelo!" When Curbelo feeds Kofi for eating time. Joined around 2018, long time lurker.
