Golf thoughts

First and foremost, congratulations to Phil Mickelson. What an achiievement at age 50. Not taking anything away from his victory.

But I, the cynical one, don't think it's the greatest performance by an "old" guy

That would go to Sam Snead, who in the 1974 PGA Championship, age 62 finished T3 behind Trevino, Nicklaus, one ahead of Gary Player. And then Tom at Turnberry 2009, age 59. Poor Stewart Cink has to live with that *. But it hasn't hurt his game. Good for you, Stewart.

The main thing is all are winners.

Not so the rabble at Kiawah - a lot of the spectators. Scary at the 18th. Creepy.

Golf channel is milking this cash cow until it's drained. Even today, it showed a clip of some clod at Kiawah who said he "witnessed history in the making," or something like that, like it was Apollo 11. Fine, whatever. But have another beer, why don't you?
