Urbana High School is a little bit bigger in enrollment, about 1,100. They cancelled their 2021 season after one game (lost to Centennial 65-0) and then didn’t field a varsity team in 2022. They started a varsity team again in 2023 and finally won their first game last year.

Now that you mention it, I do remember that. Did their cancelation have any relation to covid or just a trending downward participation numbers? The old Big 12 was awesome in all sports. Medium to big schools all downstate. There were some good rivalries and alot of talent from Danville to Bloomington. Matoon was even sneaky good in some sports. Baseball and wrestling if I remember.

It was a combo of COVID, dropping numbers and a lot of recent losing. They had 30-some kids across all four years, about half of them freshman.
