They could win it again this year with a losing record. St. Francis might win with a 4-5 record. Before the playoffs expanded to 8 classes, a team with a losing record never would have qualified. There will be 2-7 teams that win the opening round game. Prairie Ridge is going to be Comer. Would I be shocked if Andrew beat Buffalo Grove, Lake Park beat Hinsdale Central, Benet beat Moline, Rolling Meadows beat Addison Trail? They are all going to get blown out in the first round just like how almost all first round/second round and most quarterfinals have been blowouts under the old format. Carmel is 3-6 and they are going to win. If they played in a lot of other conferences then they would be 6-3.

Naz and St Francis both got great draws. Both have an easy path to the semi’s. I’m not saying they aren’t good teams but it takes away from the regular season if basically everyone gets in

My memory of my time as a player was that you had to get to 5-4 to make it in, but perhaps that was just the informal assumed line for qualification.

PR was a new school and nobody really cared about the football team at that time, it's amazing what has happened since.
5-4 was basically a requirement for a while. I think pre expansion 6-3 was the minimum & some 6 win teams could get left at the altar. That moved to 5-4 after the 2001 expansion. Over time (as fuddrules mentioned) 5 slid a bit & I know there were some 4 win teams that would make it in in recent years. Just last year Chatham Glenwood at 8-1 played a 4 win JCA in the first round. 4 was the exception rather than the rule tho.

I don't know.

That's not my belief having watched live: B/G basketball, B Soccer, G Volleyball, B/G Baseball/Softball, Scholastic Bowl, We the People, B/G Wrestling, Dance o_O, B/G Track & Field, B/G X-Country and even Music Ensemble. Still looking forward to watching Bass Fishing and Girls Flag Football.

I believe all of those other than We The Peeps have a post season where everyone qualifies. Maybe the Music thing was just judged??? But, none of them ever looked like their regular season meant less than football participants where qualification is needed for post season. The desire to compete and win was no different.

Even had a daughter have a tooth go completely through her lip - with a catchers mask on. The runner dislocated her knee and was disqualified. They cared.

The scary part there will not only be 3 or less win teams winning the "opening round," their will be at least one winning in the original first round too. That will open a new can of worms.

In 1A 2-7 NUIC team Morrison could be that team. They play Abingdon-Avon of the LincolnLand South and if they win they that win they face Fisher of the Lincoln Prairie, both of them who were bad last year. The NUIC is the strongest conference in 1A while both the LincolnLand and Lincoln Prairie have been weak.
