We played incredibly tight the past few weeks. A team who plays like that will never make serious noise in March. Houston was out there just playing and not thinking about it. You can see our guys doing mental gymnastics out there. Not sure the reason for that but that’s the main difference.

I'm having a hard time understanding 3 things:

1. Why did Curbelo get so many minutes in the 1st half?
2. Why did Damonte not get pulled sooner?
3. How was that a technical foul on Melendez? (which in my opinion broke our momentum and ultimately broke our backs)?

I thought this game had awful calls both ways. The foul Trent committed on the 3 pointer in the 1st half was as bad or worse than the Melendez technical. The NCAA should probably do Vision tests in the off-season.

I'm frustrated like everyone else. Michigan made the Sweet 16 2 years in a row, and we didn't, with teams that were more than capable.

Illinois didn’t do anything to lose this game. They got beat by a better team. No complaints. Cub’s season officially begins for me. Hope springs eternal.
Directionally I agree with what you're saying. But boy did the Illini give up a lot of offensive rebounds and made a lot of turnovers...

At least we can hope that Frazier gave Sampson pink eye.

I was thinking that too!

Good season. Onto next year, hopefully Jake and Kofi are back. Future is bright as we saw today
Love Brad, love the turnaround and love our players … but something is wrong. We should have a Final Four and a Sweet Sixteen the last two years, so why don’t we? Yes, you can explain away every individual point, but what are we left with? Excuses?

There’s no point in any true Illini fan downplaying this is anything other than consistent failure in March. These guys were capable of more, and we all know it.

One more thing I’m going to say bc it might help a little bit with how I feel. People keep saying we got beat by the better team. I’ll add the word “today”. They were the better team today.

Still love this team.

I’m gonna go watch some highlights of Epps now.

For the tournament, Curbelo shot 1 for 11 (9%) from the field, with 8 turnovers. Absolute momentum killer. I love his energy and playmaking potential, but he and the coaches need to harness those strengths to our advantage next year, when he is hopefully back to full health.

Very soft the last few games. No imagination, a lot of standing around, no ball movement…..very frustrating because we kept hearing about how good this team COULD be. Never saw it…….Overall a good Big10 season. Disappointing NCAA tournament though. Starting to become a theme. Need to get some athletes that can make plays. I love our Freshmen…
Thanks to the seniors. Loved Trent all regular season. He was a warrior.

Can't win these types of games when you can't find your A game. We played at about a C level while Houston was at a B+. They play excellent defense and Shead had a career game making him the X factor. We did have good effort and we do have some positives out of this tournament going into next year. Congrats to the team for another great year and thank you for giving us another year of hope and excitement.
