We would not have beaten many teams in the tourny today- we just haven’t been playing well and had no offensive rhythm - it’s really inexcusable for the amount of time we had to get ready for the tournament to be completely out of sync

I don’t think either of the last two years we can blame on matchups - we haven’t played even remotely well enough to win either year

I disagree. We were hovering around 4 points down all game against a team favored to beat us by 5. Easily could have won against a Saint Mary’s, Arkansas, or Providence today.

That’s not to say we played our best. We didn’t. But we played well enough to beat many teams.

I appreciate these players and their accomplishments this season! Thank you as an Illini fan! I have high hopes for our freshman next year and our incoming freshman next year. I personally expected more from our two fifth year seniors, but I appreciate all they have brought to our team in their careers here. They brought us to new heights. I know these guys are way more disappointed than I ever could be. Keep your head up and keep working hard young men! Your future is bright and you're amazing! I-L-L

Yep. Once again the ncaa let us know what they think about us with our second round opponent being regional final worthy. Smdh.

We had plenty of open shots, especially in the first half. The hesitation by some our players to take the shot set the tone.
I was impressed by Houston’s ability to keep the ball alive and crash the boards. Our guards didn’t put a body on them.
It was hard to watch Williams having such an off game. We really needed his intangibles this game.
I thought Kofi had a great game overall.
Our freshmen showed their offensive abilities, but defensively, there’s room to grow.
Trent, he is going to be missed!

The tournament is chaotic (just ask Kentucky), if you get there consistently I think this one stings a bit less. My hope is that we continue our run of tourney appearances and run in to some good luck at some point in the future.

Looking forward to how this program continues to grow,

Times a million. Where's all the folks calling out UNC and Hubert Davis yesterday? Coaches and players were absolutely putrid on simply inbounding the damn ball (and from my tv view they didn't look much like they cared, just kept doing the same thing over and over)
It is odd, how much trouble we have inbounding the ball.

I don't mean to be irritating here, but during the Weber years (not just 2004-2006), our team scored a remarkable number of points on out of bounds plays, especially baseline out of bounds plays. Often, the buckets were point blank too. Are defenses better designed to stop that these days? I really don't know.

Curbelo with not a good exchange with staff at halftime was the cause of lack of 2nd half playing time.
What was the deal with him getting upset at officials before game started and not being allowed to wear some gear so something?

Strange to say but Weber seemed to be a good set play coach after the 2005 year. Underwood’s strength so far is at player recruitment and development, not the in-game tactics part.

Today is a downer but all we can do is get back here and try again. You have to make the tourney to make noise in the tourney, right? That's a low bar to clear for sure but it's also a low bar we haven't cleared consistently before Underwood got here. Gotta keep taking those bites at the apple.

This hurts. A lot. Two years in a row losing in the round of 32 is just tough. Heck of a season, but it's gonna take a long time to get over this.

Houston was the better team today, definitely. I could see them going further.

They guys played a little less tentatively, and that was encouraging. But overall, not an effort I think they'll be proud of. Not sure what happened with the trajectory of the season, but I felt they played better earlier. Whatever the reason, if it's coachable, I hope Underwood puts some thought into how to get teams to peak later.

Gonna miss Kofi, assuming he goes. Great young man who's given the program a lot to cheer about. Same goes for the other seniors who've helped rebuild the program.

Thanks to all of them for making it fun to watch.
