I don't want to keep playing this game as we can just disagree.
But reading the bolded....are you saying the coach told them not to shoot?
Pretty sure that's not the case.
Im saying that if you are in game 33 and hesitating to take those shots then what has the coach been doing for the last 6 months. Kofi just didn't show up Thursday night in a the worlds largest blanket on our door step. After last offseason those shots are DAY ONE practice shots that basically a teams full of guards should be shooing in their sleep .

Did you see a team out there that looked as if they believed the coach had confidence in them offensively ? I watched nearly every tournament game and no matter the school I saw guys letting it fly with full confidence hit or miss. We shot the ball like a team whose every move gets questioned so they are looking over their shoulder for approval when those shots should be built into the offense not into whether the coach approves or not.

Trent - you have been one of my all time favorite players. Most of us really do know how much y’all have worked and really do appreciate everything you and everyone on the team have brought us this year. I sincerely wish you well in your professional career and we will be keeping tabs on you and will always cheer you on. We will always look back on your time here fondly and hope you do as well.

17 turnovers, so many of them unforced and the result of poor judgment. Nine for Houston. That seemed the difference today.

I'll enjoy watching Houston the rest of their games. Really energetic, great ball movement, ferocious O rebounding, and a killer midrange game when that's all we gave them. Hats off to them.

I'll miss Trent and DMW so much. Sad for them to exit like this. Trent clearly not himself because of his eye. DMW off in general. Am thankful what they gave us all these years. We're not playing today without them. We don't raise a banner this season without them. This program is restored because of them.

So pleased with RJ and Luke today. Very excited about next fall. The future is bright. Turn the page.

Good post thanks

The poor display of basketball IQ was just unbelievable today. For example, terrible execution out of the inbounds. All the turnovers on the initial pass, and then on one we throw to Kofi in the corner where he is trapped easily and turns the ball over. That's the kind of stuff I'm sure drives BU insane.
You gotta play smart for sure

Underwood is the man right now. We'll see what he can do going forward. I like what he said about just getting back to the tournament. Going forward, I like Daija 5, Coleman 4, R.J. 3, with 2 and 1 to be determined. Goode and Podz are also going to be in the mix. Having watched Daija play, he is more diversified and opens up the offense much much more. He can face up or post up. He has a big body and has handles. I am hoping Belo will return and play to his potential but whether he does or not, I believe we will be fine with the young guards and transfer portal help available.

Shooting and turnovers that about it…. I’m not nearly as upset as last year. We hit the tourney not shooting well that’s just tough. I’m very happy with the program and it’s direction

You clearly didn’t read all the posts about how they were over rated and hadn’t beaten anyone. /s

They have now. We play this game ten times, we lose 8 times imo. Just a poor matchup for us at least they way we’ve played lately.
We didn't shoot at all today but this is still a team that beat Michigan twice and Michigan State twice and Wisconsin once. Sorry we didn't have our best shooting today.

Curbelo being a non-shooter makes him useless in the pick-and-roll action. His defender just drops back on everything and invites him to shoot.

Look at Shead on Houston and how he maneuvered in the p&r late in the game. Just hit runners and mid-range jumpers and made it look EASY.
Did anyone notice how Houston went into the paint repeatedly and then kicked to shooters when the help collapsed on the ball handler??

Things to like about post game:
RJ: "I'll be back"
Curb: "time to reflect" "Coming back stronger than ever" "Love my brothers for life"
Coach: Calling out the ridiculous Technical on RJ and calling it a momentum changer
Trent: "Sit behind the keyboard all you want, but....."

Thanks to all the seniors. Hope that Kofi sticks around for his senior year. Curbelo needs to mature big time; this ain't preseason, street ball or the Harlem Globetrotters.

With that said, Illini post-conference play is mostly !!!!. Good against Drexel. !!!! against Loyola-Chicago. !!!! against Chattanooga. !!!! against Houston.

It totally was a momentum changer. I saw it and posted the same thought at the time.

Yeah they’ve achieved the goal of consistent relevancy. They need to sustain it and work towards getting over the hump.

Belo working with the sophomores + Hawkins will be huge. A lot of his passes are unique and require everyone to be on the same page

All players have things they need to work on. If Belo defense improves like it did from his freshman year he can add a different element to his game

Another year of maturity will help him. I remember Chester Frazier as a freshman and senior and I think Belo can have better improvement and has a higher ceiling

Offseason starts tomorrow and I have a feeling some players will be in the gym and in the weight room which shows their dedication and commitment

Couldn't agree more. After the huge boost the freshmen gave us in the first half, sparking a 15-7 run and scoring 11 of the 15 to get us back in the game, Underwood throws out the same starting lineup that played so poorly in the first half. Don't understand benching Curbelo the entire second half. Trent played 38 minutes against bigger, stronger guards and was gassed during last 10 minutes but still no relief with Curbelo. Yes, Curbelo didn't play well in the first half but he wasn't that bad and he has the ability to get the offense running well even if missing shots. Remember, he shot poorly and committed 6 turnovers against Chattanooga but rated +18, sparked the offense with his passing and played tough defense.
Williams with a solid career overall but this year was such an offensive liability and his defense didn't seem as strong as well, especially in last 10 games or so. Tough to play 4-on-5 on offense when he's in and allowed defenders to consistently double Kofi without worrying about Williams scoring.
Key to our mediocre play over last 10-12 games was how much our rebounding and 3-point shooting declined.

I could really see us being back in the top 25 next year and the year after that. Another year of development for RJ, Goode, Hawkins, and maybe Podz gets time. Also I think Ty Rodgers is going to contribute instantly.

I expect a huge jump from RJ as in he might be in the draft in 1-2 years. Hawkins has that potential too. Something about RJ gives me the impression he has that “Kobe” mindset though. I see this being his team next year.

Curbelo likely wont have another concussion and have to deal with missed practices and games. If he can get a jumper his game will open up a ton. Im optimistic.

We’re also going to play a style of basketball that is much more enjoyable to watch in the near future.

We didn't have our best shooting today. Or last game. Or the game before

We tried that. But our shooters were generally not in position for Kofi to pass out easily.
