Haha. You got sensitive (or “disappointed”) by Trent’s snipe at sitting behind the keyboard, I shutter to think about how you’d deal with the vitriol these kids have pop up in their timelines and mentions. As supportive as most of our fanbase is, there are still far too many that post way too much negativity at our players.
“A little disappointed “ is hardly sensitive. Other posters replied and pointed to the vitriol on Twitter to which I responded “point well taken“ and left it at that.

So long as we’re all feeling a little bit salty, what kind of idiot ref thinks this guy should have released from the rim in this moment and fall on his face to avoid the appearance of taunting or showboating or whatever stupid reason he can come up with?

If we were all as bad at our jobs as the officiating that has largely been on display this year, we’d be packing up our things and heading to the exit.
Shake my ever-loving head…

When this happened, my daughter, who gamely tries to understand the nuances/rules, etc. of what's going on, said, "But they all do that, don't they?"

That’s just it….we don’t know! Maybe playing the freshman we lose a few more games and no Big Title…who knows but I can say this, if that were to happen Coach Underwood would have been blamed for playing freshman who were not ready yet!

Some would argue that he played seniors that should've been ready but were not .

DMW shot 31%
Trent shot 39%
Belo shot 34% and missed half the season

Plummer basically saved the season with his shooting

but you are saying that somehow we couldn't have given the freshmen 5-10 minutes per game earlier in the season to lessen the load when the entire season was practice for this weekend.

17 turnovers and allowing 15 offensive rebounds, you're likely to get beaten by any decent team.
That being said, thank you boys for a league championship and the memories. It's nice to be relevant again.

Learn ANY inbounds plays PLEASE. FIFY.
Inbounds plays have been an issue across the board, all teams included. This isn't just an Illinois issue. Late in the game, it's incredible how many teams can't get the ball inbound or inbound it right into the corner. That has to be better across the country.

Was looking at the end of the year numbers for illinois on evanmiya.com and found out that Jacob Grandison not only lead the team in adjusted team efficiency margin this season for players who played atleast 300 possesions but he also did last year as well. Crazy considering they had guys like Kofi, Ayo and Trent. Missed him so bad this tournament

I what to say thank you Illini Men's Basketball for making it an amazing and blessed winter of Basketball. 21-22 Season and the B10 Title is awesome men! Kudos and thank you.
1. Kofi suspended
2. Kofi gets Covid Xmas
3. Trent has been a wounded warrior all year, s""t he hasn't had a good Shooting game since road against Hoosiers
4. Trent pink eye
5. Andre, horrible just horrible concussion.
6. Andre Covid
7. Grandison couldn't hit a jumper for 2/3rds of season, he even spoke about this.
8. Grandison just horrible shoulder Injury.
7. Rj Melendez Emergency Appendectomy, just when he was emerging as a freshman stud!
8. Coleman, pink eye.

I will quit and say, Wow great job men. To win a Title and go through all of this. so proud of you, the Coaches, and umpteen Medical staff called to duty this year. Get some rest and enjoy your rings and Amazing Future.

Surprised RJ didn't get a tech for that look (showing up the ref).
Kevin Warren was heard yelling from the crowd to “T him up” for those looks. Interviewed after the game and he said that poor sportsmanship will not stand in the Big10 and that there will be a 10 game suspension to start next season for RJ. He referenced outstanding character of Michigan players in the process.

I ONLY followed the game from Gamecast ESPN cuz Illini make me too fugging nervous...Houston had a two point lead...then technical on Melendez... wondered wtf happened as Illini got outscored rapidly and never were in the game after call.

I don’t know if we’ll be a better team next year but I’m definitely going to enjoy watching us more next year with RJ and Goode and how they play
Our freshmen, and it appears our incoming recruiting class, seem to play with a bit more fearlessness on offense (still need work/grit on the other end). Guys who want to take the shot or take over the game. We need those kinds of players, and perhaps more importantly need to empower those players to play loose, if we want to go far when it becomes nut crunching time. I'm particularly excited to see Epps since he seems to have that "it" factor along with the kind of shooting and penetration skills needed to take advantage of that mindset. I'm a bit nervous to see what this team looks like without Trent's steadiness and ball handling, but am otherwise excited to see how our style of basketball evolves moving forward (knowing there will be more growing pains than we've had to endure these last 2 years).

I am the opposite of embarrassed. They won 15 Big Ten games and a share of the title despite a suspension, concussions, shoulder injuries, pink eye and an appendectomy!

They left it all on the court and ran out of gas at the end.

I am the opposite of embarrassed; I am quite proud of the ‘22 Big Ten Champs.

I disagree BU is fine with Belo shooting multiple 3s and he hit less than 20,percent on the year. One every now and then to see if you can hit it maybe but not early in a clock. Plus how many poor inbounds passes do you need to see from DMW or Belo to make a change? Even at the end throwing it in the corner to Goode and also Kofi which lead to turnovers. Sure the coach didn't make the passes or take the shots but he does have some control over it.
You learn in Junior high when in a trap in a corner the other players are to make themselves open and if they don't you bounce the ball off a defenders leg and out of bounds.

With New Assistant Coaches, the uncertainty early in the season if Kofi was coming back, .....

PITTSBURGH — For the second straight season, Illinois men’s basketball team’s NCAA Tournament run ended in the second round.
Turnovers and being beat on the glass were the main culprits for the No. 4-seed Illini, who suffered a 68-53 loss to No. 5-seed Houston in the Round of 32 on Sunday at PPG Paints Arena.

That meant another year of being a top-four seed and winning a conference title came and went without getting out of the NCAA Tournament’s first weekend.
“We fell short,” Kofi Cockburn said. “Games like these you can’t really — there is not much — you can’t really put it in words. It’s a hard feeling going through this for another year.” Illinois had seven of its 17 turnovers on out of bounds plays and the Cougars had 15 offensive rebounds, leading to 31 points for Houston off offensive rebounds or Illinois turnovers. The Cougars rolled into the Sweet 16 and will play in their home state, in San Antonio, on Thursday. They’ll face Arizona, the top seed in the South Regional, which beat No. 9 seed Texas Christian 85-80 in overtime.

Makes me wonder if Curbelo did something specifically against what Underwood asked him to do. Some form of insubordination that warranted a harsh penalty. That or an injury we didn't recognize?
Did you see his play and shooting the first half? No insubordination, just sloppy play and horrendous shooting.

I tried reading thru this thread (and others) but simply cannot continue. Just want to say, fwiw, I thoroughly enjoyed and appreciated the contribution of ALL the players and coaches this year. THEY OWE US NOTHING! I owe them so much! I consider it a joy and privilege to be along for the ride, to cheer, to celebrate wins and grieve loses. I also want to thank those of you who contribute here on loyalty. The positive comments, insights, and entertainment (thanks Pruman) helped me get thru so many days and nights. I’m an old man, my life is not great, but Illinoisloyalty and Illini b-ball has been my friend. Thank you all! Be cool, and go Illini!
I've been lurking on this board for nearly 15 years and haven't felt compelled to post until now. Thank you sir, for your post and for being a proud member of Illini nation.

BTW, we pretty much sucked today (and Friday TBH), but I believe in the culture BU is building here. Recruiting has been really good and I think he's going to have us as a regular participant in the tourney for years to come. Next step is to make it to the second weekend. ILL...

Good effort. Just didn’t have it and came up short against a better team. Not shocking as we just haven’t had it for the past 2-3 weeks now

Thought our defense was pretty good most of the game. I figured White would kill us but he finished 1-8 for 6 points, so that’s really encouraging. Hope Coleman sticks around because with his length and lateral quickness he at least seems to slow down the athletic, versatile 4s that have killed us. A little more confidence on offense and he will be quite a player

Shead was obviously the one who killed us the last 6-8 minutes, primarily in the PnR. And it wasn’t just him making shots, but he made the right read and they were able to spray the ball around and get open looks once our defense collapsed. Credit to the kid, credit to them.

About the only thing I wish BU had tried, and it’s been touched on before, is giving Belo a shot defending Shead. Really a double edged sword though because on defense they were daring us to shoot 3’s, and bringing in Belo probably means taking out our best shooter. Darned if you do darned if you don’t. I get why BU stuck with Plummer but I told my wife if we don’t figure out a way to stop this PnR we are going to get blown out of the game.

I knew we were in trouble in the first few minutes when DMW, CH, and Trent all turned down multiple open looks and had hesitation like we did at Rutgers. Their whole game plan is to dare you to beat them with 3’s and you’re not going to win if you’re scared to shoot them. You have to make them pay.

Frosh gave us a really nice spark weren’t afraid and kept us in the game, but seniors just didn’t have enough today to finish it. Feel bad because I feel like with Trent with 2 good eyes and a healthy Grandi and it’s a much closer game. Also, too many dumb turnovers. I think the turnovers and hesitation both come from the same sense of tightness that for whatever reason we’ve had the last month or so of the season. Could just be fatigue.

Good season. We still somehow won a share of the BIG despite all of our injuries. But I wonder if having such a dominant force with Kofi (and 2 with Ayo/Kofi) last year gave us too much of a “final four or bust” feeling and was too much pressure. Loved this team but looking forward to a reset in the coming years where there isn’t so much pressure and we will also be longer, more athletic, and should have more shooting. Will be fun to see what BU can do with a group like that and maybe that’s a team that’s better built for March, a la Houston, who has now been to 3 straight S16s including a F4.

Apologies for the rambling. Executive summary is I think the season was a success given all the adversity and future looks bright. Let’s keep the staff together and snag an impact transfer or 2 and we will be right there again.

I believe Curbelo's main problem is he thinks he is the best option on about every play. If and when he realizes he isn't, his enormous potential could be realized.

I thought when Kofi was able to kick the ball out to the perimeter there was really good ball movement. However, I got the feeling they were timid to shoot the ball. It was like You take t, no you take it, I don't want it you take it, then the shot clock would run down, and someone would finally take the shot which was worse than a couple of the earlier looks. Like many. I'm disappointed about the way the season ended but look forward to moving on with the freshmen. I wish BU could have got Podz in there for a little time along with RJ and Luke. Can't wait until it all begins again.

Saying I was disappointed would be a huge understatement, but I know everyone gave their best effort and we have been banged up and worn down all season. I got a bargain on my season tickets considering all the joy and entertainment this team provided all year, and I will be sad to see the seniors leave. They have given years of their lives to this team, and I would like to say thanks to all of them. If I ever run into one of them in a bar, drinks are on me. I wish them all success in life, and I look forward to seeing development of the young guys next year. ILL!
