I believe The success factor is also a stupid rule. All boys school already have a multiplier of 2.0.

I believe the original rule was if you didn’t have a playoff win in 4 years you would lose the multiplier.

I agree with you as far as not letting some of these schools go down in size. I have family at Montini and many friends who have graduated and are still very present at games. I'm happy for their situation this year. They did everything by the rules and are a great group of kids. I don't know if any of you watched yesterday and saw how respectful they are to others, especially the refs. With that said, It's no secret they were down for a while. Some kids bailed and went elsewhere. THe difference is they can get a 6ft3 sophomore QB from Arlington Heights to come on down and bounce a pretty good senior Qb. Public schools cant do this. I'm sure the QB im speaking of could've went to DGN, but he is a good kid and stuck it out.
I'm not getting my shrunken classes, but schools like that should play with say a rolling average of 4 year attendance and however you want to put in a multiplier and somehow factor in the size of the area they pull from. Montini has kids come all the way from White Eagle in Naperville. If you aren't familiar, that is a pretty far bus ride.

The 30-mile radius for private schools seems too wide for me, but I also get that parents should be able to send their children where they think they can get the best education if they can afford to do so. I'm not smart enough to have an equitable solution that balances leveling the field for sports and giving parents the freedom to send their kids to a private school and not punishing the student-athlete.

Izzy is actually from Elgin but he played at St Viator. Public schools also recruit. Jonas didn’t just show up at LWE on his own. Esl hits the transfer portal harder than most colleges.

Realistically how many kids are coming from 30 miles. Also for schools like Loyola a lot of their 30 mile radius is in Lake Michigan.

No idea how many athletes come from 30 miles away. My guess is not many, which begs the question why it remains 30 miles. And yes, some parents will actually move into a public school district so their kid can play in a better program or for a proven coach, join a better music or art program or simply get a better education. The difference is they actually have to live within that district's boundaries. I also understand that that sort of movement applies more to families that have the means to make those moves.

The reason they went to split 1-16 in lower classes had nothing to do with Chicagoland teams in the finals. When the financial crisis was happening in 2008, they did it to save the smaller schools money on travel. They've just never decided to change it in the years since.

I just switched over the JC/Naz and game and my goodness what is JC doing? Under 4 minutes, qb goes to sideline to get play, jogs back, and they snap ball with 0 on play clock. They are down 2 scores.

Then why didn’t 1a-6a go back to 1-32 like 7a and 8a did

Montini beat Byron 14-13, Princeton 24-14.

Chicago Christian beat tri valley 24-14, Farmington 34-20

DePaul prep beat coal city 21-14

All of those teams in the northern bracket are much more deserving to be in the finals

also Byron won the 3a finals last year 69-7. Where was all the crying when a public school runs up the score

2 minutes into the 7A final and the game is over. I would expect something similar for 8A although Loyola’s offense is not as explosive as MC.

Because Byron is a solid 3A public school and Montini is private school from a Chicago suburb who won 5A titles!

Even Byron can see that this system is broken

Was the system broken for Byron when they beat Montini last year or if they wouldn’t have gotten stopped when they went for 2 this year.

Also with the multiplier Montini will be 4a next year. The schools enrollment has gone down to 488 kids. They also haven’t won a state championship since 2015.
