Check out Fletch's Twitter for 8 month strength gains of the team

Mav, JCL, MH, and AJ's improvement are insane. The team looks completely different from last year. AJ's vertical went up 7 inches in 10 months and Mav's numbers are insane! He looks like a different person entirely. Very awesome. :illinois::shield:

Wow JCL going up +110 lbs in the squat. Wish they had the vert in there for him. Hopefully will be able to absorb more contact and get to the rim more.

Maybe he only posted stuff that they made gains on.

I figure if you gain that much in the squat the vert is probably gonna go up a little bit right? Maybe they didn't have a good baseline to compare to.

JCL did come in with the stress fracture, right? So maybe that kept them from getting the vertical baseline

You would imagine. But also maybe JCL isn't a stand and jump type guy; instead, he's a run and jump type person instead

A few years back when I was in peak shape, I could dunk a volleyball off my vertical. But when it came to run and jumping, I couldn't do it at all.

You should have shown that clip on your highlight film!

Fletch might just be earning his keep.

I don't know if this will work or not but here is a link to the spreadsheet I typed up of all the stats he just posted.

With regards to MH...that vertical puts him in some pretty good company, tied for 11th in this list of last year draft combine. Really unbelievable that you can add 5" from Jr to Sr year.

http://stats.nba.com/draftcombine/#!/agility/?sort=MAX_VERTICAL_LEAP&dir=1

If he's 6'7" to start, he can likely reach 8'7" flat-footed. With a 38" vertical, he should be able to reach as high as 11'9" or almost 2' above the rim. His head should get to within 3" of the rim at the apex of his leap. That seems hard to believe, or would be spectacular improvement...

A lot has been said about Kipper and Malcolm's improvement for good reason, but Finke, Morgan, AJ, and others have all made significant improvements themselves. One has got to believe this translates into wins. Maybe we can get that key rebound or better defend the wing who likes to drive to the hoop.

Stellar job by the players and Fletch. Amazing gains in a short time. Our team looks like a group of commandos.

Just looked through fletch's. Twitter. Friggin awesome. That is how basketball players are supposed to look. Would have loved to see the weight and bf% changes as well.

Also, anybody know what happened with Leron's squat. The numbers don't add up.

I'm guessing Leron's squat and vertical are a little lower than expected partially due to Fletch being cautious with his knee. I know he's full go now (right?), but he might not be 100% in game shape quite yet. Just a guess.

Edit: OH! You mean literally the math doesn't make sense. Right. No idea there. If he's up 110 pounds from the initial number (264 to 374), then his squat is pretty dang decent. A 308-pound squat wouldn't be super impressive.

I think that might just be a typo…

Also, was anyone else really surprised at some of the low squat numbers previous numbers I mean…

Yes. I know it's totally different being that height, but I've got long legs for being a hair over 6'0 (34-inch inseam), and I was squatting 275 within a few months after I started weight training at age 19. By the time I was 21, I was doing deep squats (not rear end-to-grass, but breaking parallel) with 465. The only way I can imagine a naturally strong, athletic male squatting less than 225-250 is if they've literally never done it and have to condition the CNS by grooving the movement pattern.

My guess is that some of these guys were squatting quite a bit more than their listed starting weights 8 months ago, but not doing it with the form/depth Fletch requires.

That is a good point… It probably had more to do with a newer technique or requirement then their actual old maxes

Probably right. People cheat bc of machismo.

OT:
14 months ago my "squat" (really a half squat plus a good morning) was 384. My real squat at the ground was only about 250. Now my real squat is 340, and my verticle has gone all the way up to almost 20". Crap genetics. :(

The good news is that if don't win this year we can always invade a small country. Joking aside, Hill is a beast, and Fletch needs a big raise!

Looks like our team's average verticle is now around 34.5". Has to have a big effect on games. Anyone know what the flying illini were jumping at?

Mostly alley-oops.
