If the first day of classes is the 17th why wouldn't students be back for the Maryland game? Are you all assuming everyone just shows up the first day of classes. I would think a lot of people will be there the weekend before classes start. I would have been back in the day.

That would be like my worst case scenario. But, as most know, Im an eternal optimist.

Well, my heart says we go 11-2 in the non-con, 6-4 over the first 10 games in the B1G, 6-2 to finish out the regular season, make it to the BTT championship game, and breeze into the NCAA tournament with a gaudy 26-9 record and a top-20 ranking. Then we lose a close game in the Elite 8 despite Malcolm's 32 & 12. In the post-game thread, we talk about how much we're going to miss watching him play, but take solace in the fact that Kris Wilkes should be able step right in. Barring any miracles, that's my best case scenario.

Your worst case sounds like my expected outcome (21-23 regular season wins, 6 or 7 seed, 1-2 NCAA wins), while my worst case (assuming relatively good health) is more like 9-4 non-con, 8-10 in the B1G, 0-1 in the BTT, 0-1 in the NIT. I doubt it goes down like that, but that's about the worst I can imagine within reason (i.e. I'd be disappointed but not surprised).

This is what terrifies me the most. If we go 5-5 in those first ten games that's progress in my book.

Schedule makers didn't do him any favors in January this year. Although it was probably too much for me to hope for 3 games against Rutgers in January.

I was feeling a lot more confident about this season before I saw this B1G schedule. Groce is 9-22 in January, or about 34%. That rounds off to 3-6 this year. I don't like it, but I could live with that. A 7-1 finish still gets us to the Dance.

Depends which day the dorms open back up. Freshmen make up a big part of Krush and they can't come back if they have no place to live.

But look on the bright side. We get to play Maryland, Indiana, and Purdue with their students gone.

Pretty sure those seats get sold during break games.

That being said, if we play well in the non-con there will be.plenty of students come back for games during break. Will they be in the Krush seats and have coordinated cheers? No, but the environment can be good during break games. Just need a product people want to come see

Yes the majority of Krush seats are sold for cheap. Usually $20 or less. So the seats will be full. And like you said it's all about how the team plays. I've been to break games where there was almost no difference in atmosphere and I've been to other games where you could here a pin drop.

It still sucks because Krush will be loud no matter what. But all the other schools have to deal with the same problem. Like I said, we get to play Maryland, Indiana, and Purdue without their students.

I feel we had among the more favorable conference schedules the past 2 years

By strength of schedule, I think we got an excellent draw. Only 4 Big Ten home games on weekends with one of them being New Year's Day is pretty crappy though.

January could be rough, but we got a real shot to win out starting with Iowa. A real chance to be playing our best ball down the stretch.

In regards to the Big Ten and the Illini schedule, there is one team that no one is talking about that I'm concerned with, and that is Ohio State. Coming back is Jae-Sean Tate (11 ppg), Marc Loving (14 ppg), JaQuan Lyle (11 ppg), Keita Bates-Diop (11 ppg), and Kam Williams (8 ppg).

Returning your core players is good for any coach and fan base, and looking at who is coming back, I wouldn't sleep on Ohio State. I think that New Year's Day game will be a big test for Illinois, and thank goodness the Illini are hosting that game. We know how tough it is to win in Columbus. I think the Buckeyes will finish in the top seven of the Big Ten when the regular season ends.

Here's a gold nugget: they only have one senior on this year's roster in Loving. It's possible OSU can be a load in 2017-2018. Keep an eye on the Buckeyes.

Unless they have changed their policy, the dorms won't be open. Also, that game will not be part of the student ticket package.

However, Krush typically sells those seats to Krush students first, and in the past, filled it up about 1/3 or 1/2 with Krush before releasing them to the public. Hopefully, they will still draw a good Krush crowd and get some good loud fans to fill in. Those are big games.

Does anyone know when tickets to the Illini vs BYU game at the United Center go on sale? I'm really looking forward to that game.

Trevor T is an athletic center also, but it's too bad their 15 class fell apart. We'll see if depth is an issue.

It think the Golden Gophers win a few that they shouldn't in conference despite absolutely no depth. I like their top 6-7(not even close to tOSU) even though they are super young too. They need to get 2016 commit and forward Michael Hurts little brother on board asap. I wish we were recruiting the kid, but our staff has some awesome talent instate to go after.

I'd use a different adjective than "too bad." But, yeah, OSU has talent, but (probably) lacks depth.

They also had a mass exodus of transfers. Who is replacing Daniel Giddens? He was the key guy in both tOSU wins over Illinois last year. How many blocks did he have in both games? We literally couldnt get a shot off in the paint because of him in both games. I think Illinois wins this game with tOSU having no Giddens this year.

Does Lucas have the full green light yet? Any reports from today's Illini open gym that DMW attended? Also, did Ramey play?

Last update on Lucas was October 1 for full speed. Almost 7 months ago, must have been nasty fractures.

Didn't know where to put this and it can be removed if this doesn't fit the thread but NBA2k17 you can now choose Illinois in my career mode to play your college ball. That's pretty awesome.
