For what it's worth, College Sports Madness did a ranking of the top 144 teams in college basketball. Our beloved are at #122

Maryland #39
Iowa #44
Indiana #55
Wisconsin #62
Ohio St #76
Penn St #86
Nebraska #99

The rest of the rankings will be released as the days leading up to the season dwindle down. Leaving us at the 13th best team in the conference. We were behind the likes of Elon, Albany, Mo. State, Loyola (IL), Grand Canyon (!), Fairfield, Mercer, UC-Irvine and Louisiana Lafayette.

Don't sleep on Grand Canyon.

We will have our hands full with them even in Champaign

Haven't heard of them, but on paper, we're pretty crappy. We lost a ton of seniors, lost our highest rated incoming recruit, and lost our coach. And we didn't even make the tourney last year....or any of the previous 3. Even if we get an Underwood bump, I'd expect us to be well outside the top-50. We're also in a premier conference with a lot of great coaches.

Respect will have to be earned.

Again , truth to this statement, but think it has little bearing on what will happen with this group. BU is a highly motivated coach, and from what has been reported from knowledgeable people, team has bought in. Ready for them to play and shut all nay sayers up.

High on TF. But he has to learn recalibrate his decision making because D1 bigs are an entirely different animal than HS bigs. Applies to all freshman guards.

Have read some concerns about Frazier's J: ball too low when released, unorthodox form, streaky shooter. Any merit to that? FWIW, I think those are valid, yet overblown.

The Ball family says hello

Trent will be fine. His high school team was small and very young; with really only two kids who could create any offense.

When in that situation, players will tend to force some stuff more often. At Illinois, Trent will be able to let the offense come to him. I reckon he'll be a more reliable and consistent scorer than Jalen Coleman-Lands, who had a few streaks, but was more bad than good and couldn't score at all inside the arc.

Trent's hands will also be really good defensively.

Grand Canyon is the Dan Majerle coached team. Pushing New Mexico State in the WAC for that one bid and #15 seed. Kenpom had them finishing 2017 at 152 which sounds bad, but that's better than some P6 schools.

Last year I am not certain Illinois could have beaten them on a neutral floor, that's how far down Illinois has fallen lately.

That's last year's rating, not this year's. And they lost their pg, who played 37 minutes a game. I'm not that worried

This team will surprise a lot of people and upset a lot of teams. I can't express how excited I am for Mark Smith in this system: this year and in the future. He's the real deal.

I'll go out on a limb and bet the beach house that we do better than 12th. Are we still allowed to bet beach houses here?

Only yellow ones along Atlantic Avenue...stay off of Boardwalk though, that's where the Blue Bloods live now.

That was almost the exact verbiage. Trent talks A LOT but is very good; Mark is the more subdued "let's get down to business" type.

Piper also said that he told this to Ayo's father, and he seemed quite pleased by it. Need to start spreading this to all of the recruits, IMO.

Ha! That was a total guess

IU lost Blackman, OG, and Bryant from a team that finished 10th last season. Why can't we finish ahead of them??

That's a question I have been wondering about !!!!

I think we will surprise a lot of folks this year....10-8 or 11-7 B1G and go dancing ...

Magazines I have seen are consistent in B1G picks for the beloved.

All three of them 11th? We all may drink the Orange and Blue Koolaid, but apparently--actually--they all drink from the same well.
