He predicted 6-12, 13th place last year.Where did we finish in relation to his preseason prediction last year?
Sadly, this was much more accurate than most of us.

That was with Smith and Alstork being busts too.He predicted 6-12, 13th place last year.

Trent was over the prediction no doubt tho - so some puts and some takes that probably evened out. I am thinking Freshman in general bring your potential ranking down in general unless they are 1 and done types. That was with Smith and Alstork being busts too.

I believe he tries to reflect newcomers to some degree, but definitely his system requires data and can be volatile for November and December. Pretty stable by New Year's I would sayAlso we have a lot of unknowns with a couple transfers as well as the freshmen.
Doesn’t Kenpom rely on last year as well and doesn’t really start to get accurate until like 10+ games into the season?

I think the United Center game against OSU is a big mistake. This team needs every advantage it can get. Not playing in State Farm is a HUGE BREAK for OSU! Crowd noise and atmosphere is night and day. If you think there will be a big turn-out because its a big ten game you are mistaken. OSU, however, will bring a few folks who you will be able to hear in that near empty arena. I lived in Chicago for past 15 years and those folks don't give a hoot about IL athletics. Now, i know they had good attendance when they were winning but those days are long gone. And i don.t care abot a Chicago pipeline that isnt there! Or the area kids playing in there home town. This team needs the home ct. advantage and taking it away for this game is a bad idea.
I hope Latulip comes back to coach here someday, Maybe even recruit. I think he would be a great asset to the program. JMO.
I live in the Chicago land area and when I first saw the date and time of the Illinois game, I thought it would be poorly attended but I sent note to the Illini fans that normally go with me to a game in Champaign. I was surprised that people have gotten back to me and want me to get them 7 tickets. I am still waiting for a response from two other people. Maybe this is just blind luck but there is an interest in this game from my contacts. It will be interesting to see what the attendance is but I do not feel you can ignore the Chicago land Illini fans. The group that will probably not attend are a lot of the fans that live around the Champaign area. I would much prefer a Saturday game against a team with name recognition that is not a B1G team. The United is more empty than SFC. Not smart to play in Chicago, there is nothing to gain. Recruits? Yeah right.
Absolutely wrong IlliniKat91 playing at home in college basketball is a huge advantage one you don't give up to a big ten opponent. The Crush and what will be a pretty good crowd can make a lot of noise. There are many more advantages that i won't bore everybody with.
I can’t remember the last time an Illinois team clearly outplayed the preseason predictions. I’m sure it’s happened, but do we need to go back to the Matt Heldman era to find one?
2004-2005?
They are now available exclusively to I FUND members and Season Ticket or Mobile Pass Holders until October 26th.Are bragging rights tickets available yet?
I agree. I went to the Maryland and Nebraska games last year. Although both of these games were very exciting, the noise level was not very high.Again, I have to ask when was the last game you attended at SFC. I agree it's foolish to give up home court advantage, but our fan sections haven't been raucous as of late, Krush included.
2004-2005?
Yeah, nobody predicted 29-0, but they DID expect us to be very good, just not VERY very good.

If any team has the opportunity to outplay the pundit’s predictions, it’s this one. Nobody has any idea how good we’ll be, aside from seeing a bunch of freshman and new faces, shrugging, and saying, “A whole team of newcomers never does much in the Big Ten.” They are generally right, but hey, maybe we’ll be the exception. Come on, Illini, just ONCE surprise everyone with your success!
