In the early Bracketology by Joe Lunardi, he has us at a 4 seed. With Wisky, MSU and Iowa above us and even with OSU. I am not sure as tough as the conference is, I can see 5 teams in the top 16 but us as a 4 is low
Put me in with the guys that could care less where the Illini are ranked and by whom or when. This team should have but one goal...win 'em all and especially the last 6. I would trade two losses to Iowa for 6 in a row to end the season...maybe only one to Indiana or Michigan though...just can't stomach two after watching 66 years of their crap (but I did like the VanArsdales).

That prompts a trivia question: Which was not a Van Arsdale brother? Tom, Dick or Harry?

Not sure on this but I thought Tom and Dick were twins.....and played at the same time????
Harry (a real banger) played later as a walk-on

Truth. I once saw a hockey stat that the Gretzky brothers were among the top scoring brothers in NHL history. Brent scored one goal in his NHL career :p

After Michael Jordan scored a game-high 69 points, teammate Stacey King quipped "I'll always remember this as the night that Michael Jordan and I combined to score 70 points

Identical twins. After playing at Indiana, they both had amazingly similar NBA careers. Tom had 14,000 points, 3,000 assists and 3,900 rebounds. Dick had 15,000 points, 3,000 assists and 3,800 rebounds

I'd take a 4 seed. A 4 seed is not low. If Illinois is in the national top 15 after the BIG10 season, that is a good place to be. If the BIG10 is like last year where it is an absolute grind with the winner having 6 losses you probably aren't going to see a top 2 seed from any BIG10 team.
I am not saying its low, and I agree that the conference schedule will be brutal but I was thinking we would be no worse than a 3. I think that whoever wins the Big10 will get a 2 seed. There are without question 7 teams worthy of a top 25 ranking and possibly 8. This is the deepest conference in the NCAA.

*couldn't

I find the prognostications of the various talking heads on rankings and brackets mostly amusing, but Lunardi specifically is a chump. I don't feel like he's got any actual insight that I don't have as a random fan.

Let them doubt. The guys on this team are used to it. I think they kinda like it.

The tournament is such a crapshoot, it's hard to get too worked up over seeding even when its announced on Selection Sunday. To make a memorable run, you have to slay some goliath's on the way regardless of the number by your name. If we make it to March healthy, we've got as good a chance as anyone.

He is the Mel Kiper of ESPN college basketball.

We were the team last March that teams would not have wanted to play if there was a tourney. Most people thought we were a 6 seed and depending on which 2 or 3 we had in the bracket, they could have not wanted to play us. You are right that to win it all, you have to slay some goliaths. Since 1981, we have only had one upset win in the tourney and it was a 4/5 game against Cincy. Let us see if we can knock off a few upsets this year on our way to the top

Reasonable, or how about we just get a 1 seed and have no upsets?

Can’t see big home court advantage with no fans which I believe will translate to less losses for the top teams. Seemed like a 10 point advantage and that is a lot with how competitive this league is. May be advantageous as to seeding.

The 10 least appreciated players in college basketball

Trent Frazier, Illinois: The decisions of both Ayo Dosunmu and Kofi Cockburn to return to school next season has made Illinois a potential Final Four team in 2021, but Frazier is also a major key. The veteran guard emerged as one of the top on-ball defenders in the Big Ten last season and will play a critical role in whether or not Brad Underwood’s squad can hit its ceiling.
