I hate to think of 2 more seasons of Garza.
If Garza is still here in two season then something has gone seriously wrong in his life.

Same. I keep wondering about this. It doesn't sound like it is a "maybe or possibility, depending on what happens." They literally just get to play this year and play again next year? ALL seniors?
That makes no sense.

Totally get that. I know their reasoning for it. Geno Auriemma questioned it as well. It makes it difficult with recruiting and such. There are only 5 starting spots on a basketball team...and only realistically 8-10 guys who play a significant role. If you have 4 seniors who play a significant role, and you have recruited well and have 2-3 freshmen expecting to take some of those roles, you have a real problem for your team. I know it can all be adjusted and solutions can be made, but it is weird to just automatically give it out, even if there is a full season played....IMO!I don't think you can make sense of a pandemic year by comparing it to other years. And I don't think you can find a solution that doesn't have pros and cons. If you have a perfect solution, I'm all ears.
Can Jess Settles get another year?If Garza is still here in two season then something has gone seriously wrong in his life.

Bring back JV teams. For sure there are potential issues with this. Perhaps it means hard choices - Freshman star taking a lesser role or choosing a different school; Senior taking a backup role or foregoing an extra year of eligibility. On the other hand, it's looking increasingly likely COVID is going to be a concern next season as well. A vaccine may not be widely distributed until well into 2022 or beyond. In that case, the extra roster depth (as this extra eligibility won't count against scholarship limits) may be advantageous in keeping a season rolling on despite the occasional player quarantine.
I assume Garza is gone after this year. If he plays up to expectations he's going to be a lottery pick and he'd be silly not to take the NBA contract.
curious who said that?2020: the only year where a head coach can get away with openly saying he doesn't know how to handle officials because they're "very toxic" and potentially disease-ridden, without being fined. What weird times we live in.
A quote and some paraphrases from Underwood in the Richey article Dan linked above.curious who said that?
Feel free to come back and say "I told you so" in several months should I be wrong, but color me one that is doubtful Garza is ever going to be more than a late first round pick, if that (if I were betting $$ right now, I'd go with pick 45-undrafted). He runs like he has bricks in his shoes. He seems to be a less athletic Frank Kaminsky, which...er...isn't a great NBA endorsement. And this is not even considering how loaded that draft class is, both from this year's freshmen and from all the players that chose to return rather than go pro this year.
LOL. No Kidding , he was at Iowa from my Freshman yr in HS in 1984 until I graduated from WIU in 91'Can Jess Settles get another year?
I actually think Garza can provide some value to an NBA team. Yes, not as athletic as you’d like, but rebounds well, can score efficiently down low and I think can develop into a 35ish percent 3 point shooter. I see him as a Lopez brother. This from NBAdraftroom.com agrees with you, having him undrafted, but on the bubble of a late 2nd rounder:
"A massive and talented post player who scores in bunches but lacks ideal mobility for the NBA game."
It's hard to imagine a player of his productivity in college going undrafted, but if teams don't think he can get down the court in today's game, it could happen.
They're 'toxic' meaning they're more likely to get sick and pass it on, not toxic referring to their attitudes or reffing styles. He wasn't bashing the refs.2020: the only year where a head coach can get away with openly saying he doesn't know how to handle officials because they're "very toxic" and potentially disease-ridden, without being fined. Meh, your comment was essentially clickbait for that article. Not my kind of joke I suppose.

Every NBA team needs a "Brian Cardinal" type player to do the dirty work. Brian was beloved in Dallas on their championship team for what he contributed to their success- The "Custodian". Garza can be that guy & more with his shot making ability.I could see him being similar to a Moe Wagner -- a bit outdated relative to what is in demand in the NBA and not a great defender, but a guy that plays his a** off and ends up carving out a role because of it. I was referring more to his draft stock, though. Teams are hesitant to use a high draft pick on a player with his measureables and skillset. I see his ceiling as a Moe Wagner-type selection (late first round), but suspect that the context of the 2021 draft will push him down even further.
Agree with you on most likely not being a high draft pick and wouldn’t surprise me if he doesn’t get drafted at all. But not everyone who gets drafted sticks in the NBA and not everyone who sticks is drafted, VanVleet and Nunn come to mind.I could see him being similar to a Moe Wagner -- a bit outdated relative to what is in demand in the NBA and not a great defender, but a guy that plays his a** off and ends up carving out a role because of it.
