Sometimes when I am feeling a bit like torturing myself, I head over to tigerboard to see how that trainwreck is going. Usually they spend a lot of time whining about Cuonzo but someone inevitably comes back with "but he's better than Brad Underwood."

Tonight, this...
Poster 1: what do you propose? Will You Keep watching our team
Poster 2: Hire Illinois's coach

Sorry for linking to that monstrosity of a board, but this amused me.

Their fans are about as delusional as it gets, eh? Look at this gem (sorry for sending you back to that horrid board):

They honestly think they are/were a blue blood?

Underwood and Co. have built an amazing team culture! You see it here, during games, and in post-game interviews. I absolutely love seeing players celebrate the accomplishments of their teammates as much, if not more, than their own.

And having fun in a long and grueling season (made even more so by COVID) is critical.

Well, we've probably had 5-6 teams in Illini basketball history with the talent to win the Natty. And we've definitely had the best team in the nation at least twice before (1989 and 2005).

Really hoping this is the year! I believe this team falls into category 1 --- and we're among a small handful of teams with a great chance to get it done. The one big key, luck has to also be on your side and you have to go into the tourney realizing that one game out of the (potential) six is going to be a toss-up in the final two minutes. Damn glad we have Ayo on our side for that one!

Go Illini!!!!

I remember earlier in the season when Jay Bilas said on TV and I quote "They sure do lose a lot being so highly ranked" end quote referring about Illinois losing early in the season .
Them games are what has made Illinois a better team since losing them early .
Well to be fair to Jay, many posters here had the same opinion. Heck many of them had same opinion when it came to close wins or even bad halves during comfortable wins.

Thanks for the share good stuff, learned somethings I never knew or heard.
But all things said , maybe not the greatest Illinois`s men`s best basketball player ever (in peoples minds or opinions) , but without doubt "MY" all time favorite Illinois men`s basketball player (hands down-always my biggest man crush has been with Gill) and for sure one the greatest to ever lace em -up for our Beloved Fighting Illini`.
Again thanks for the share ChoclateThunder....
I attended an alumni game about 10 years ago. Looked like Kendall Gill and Kiwane Garris, were in good enough shape to start for one of John Groce's teaams :)

Good stuff , could either one stay in front of their man on defense still ? , or did you keep them in front of you ? Just kidding ;) I remember that Illini` team with Garris , Turner , Notree , Gee and Hester (loved watching them do their thing) and all respect to their other teammates .

I just remember when he was “signed” that it was mentioned he was mentioned as being not your typical walk-on and has some international experience too. If you look at the comments section of the recent YouTube video of the Illini-Mich game. Someone was pasted some comment about how good Padilla was going to be after each comment. Thought that was pretty funny and strange.
I saw that too and was like "who??" lmao

I remember early in the season some posters were saying that to get to 16-4 in conference play we'd have to start better than 8-2 in our first 10 because our schedule was back-loaded. That's all to say that it's pretty crazy that we started out a decent 7-3 and then went on an absolute TEAR to close the season out and still hit that 16-4 goal. Insane what this team is capable of

You know what's interesting, after Ayo went out, I expected Miller to be the one to step up and fill up the stat sheet. Instead, it was Curbello. I'm impressed with him. If you had asked me at the beginning of the year who would have a bigger impact, I would have said Miller. If Curbello adds a consistent 3 point shot and midrange jumpshot, and limits turnovers, he could be NBA bound after next season.

Those are three large and's. He's capable, but an Ayo trajectory seems more likely.

Wow didn't realize https://nbadraftroom.com/p/2021-nba-mock-draft/ had Kofi going in the first round. To be able to pull in Enoch and have Kofi/Ayo go in the first round would be amazing for this program.
Proof of concept.

BU plays his freshmen, he has had at least one freshman starter each year at Illinois. All we needed was to show that we have a viable path to the NBA for guards and bigs, you could improve your game here and that you can win here. It looks like we have the right elements to pitch. The culture is gravy.

After what Ayo has done this year he is better than a lot of guys ahead of him on the draft board. No one is better in the NCAA than Ayo this year. If he was about two inches taller he would be the #1 guy.
