We already have 3 commits for next season, and none of them are over 6'4". The open scholarship is the only slot that is certainly not taken and we are deep in pursuit of Whitmore and Corhen. Yes, we will likely have transfers or guys go pro, but its probably harder to get a firm commitment for theoretical openings.

Would you rather have a top 100 type 2022 or whatever is left of the transfer/2021 scrap heap? With Trent and DMW its already going to be challenging getting everyone on the floor in PRACTICE.

There is downside in a situation where one more player doesn’t get his desired playing time and transfers out.

While we have an open scholarship, this year is an unusual year where we’re still one scholarship above the normal scholarship limit because of Trent & Damonte’s return.

I don't think the staff here, or really any nationally strong program, shies away from adding players because they are afraid of having too much talent.

you can read this if you would like, I posted several threads ago. YOU are making the comparisons of pros against pros. The fact is the guy does exactly what is needed and when it is needed. A less disciplined player would see >50% from 3 and chuck em all. DMW is a smart selfless player.

at the end of the day, anyone can make a stat tell a story. But you can’t deny that he maximizes his opportunities, which puts us in a better position to succeed.

The discussion was NEVER about DMW doing what was needed .

It was about him shooting poorly for 3 years shooting well for 4 months and then being declared one of the best shooters in the country entirely based off percentages from that 4 month stretch.

As I said originally that was unfair to him because it puts the expectation that 50+ percent from three is normal and should be expected .

I used pros as an example to show how absurd the claims are from a basketball prospective .

You basically have tried to counter my claims with stuff that was never even being debated because it was already admitted to at the start none of which cements DMW as being one of the best shooters in the country.

It's not a discussion of his value which is tremendous but a specific skill when compared to the rest of the country..

And finally a great shooter who shoots over 50 percent from three is gonna be given every opportunity to shoot more shots and he is expected to shoot more shots . The discipline you are talking about is applied to lessor shooters with a good percentage not the best shooters in the country

A couple comments:
1. If you're going to put a lot of emphasis on context, then it's worth noting that DMW was really good in practice long before those 4 months.
2. Sometimes the light goes on, and a guy who's able to do something in practice but not in games, figures it out.

The discussion strikes me as pedantic. Everyone has their idea of what a great shooter is/does, and that's what defines your view of DMW. He's kind of an extreme case of high percentage on low usage. Seems like that's what's at issue, is whether that meets the definition.

I don’t really know any teams that would employ a 15 man rotation and expect to win at a high level. We have 14 scholarship players right now. Even if a freshman redshirts, you’re still talking 13 players to rotate and there just aren’t enough minutes to do that. Depth of not, sheer volume will prevent minutes from whoever is the end of the bench.

We are one “oh my!” Player away from being the most dangerous team in the country. If that is Hutch or Hawkins, I would be ecstatic. But who knows …Plummer may be a scoring machine…Vinnie “Microwave“ Johnson for you of an age.

Could be a return to the old Trent too… certainly showed it in the Michigan game.

We definitely have question marks going into the season, but it strikes me how much the program has been built up since Underwood arrived. Hasn't been smooth sailing, but the trend and hard work has led to a tremendous rebuild.

Was looking at Torvik's site, and see he's projecting Gonzaga as a run-away #1. Top 5 are Zags, UCLA, Texas, Illini, Kansas. Michigan and Purdue check in at 6 and 7. Should be a tough battle for the BIG.

He doesn’t show any contribution by Hutch or Hawk. Hope they can be the difference between a good team and a great team but understand why they don’t enter into Torvik’s calculation.

That's true, minutes could be hard to find for "end of the bench" players, but having 12-13 players to rotate especially in practice will make everyone better....plus if a starter or a key role player goes down with injury it's nice having that depth....the coaching staff needs to do a good job of explaining this to some players and keep them motivated to improve and push those ahead of them to garner more game minutes
