LOADED team. 🤩

I see a rotation of 9, with very little drop-off other than Kofi when he sits.

Sprinkle in the freshman. BBV and Lieb at the end of the bench? I like BBV and think he could produce solid minutes when he gets the chance.

What gives you the impression BBV can play at this level. He is big and strong, but he is a step slow. Has not shown anything so far. I hope you are right, I just do not see it.

He played solid backup minutes against Iowa during the tournament. I think he's been very limited historically due to injuries, but I could see him improving to give us 3-5 min per game

This is my expectation as well, but doesn't align with the OPs "solid minutes" statement. I'd love it if he was a 10+MPG contributor because it means we're that much deeper, but I haven't seen it so far, plus he just seems injury prone.

Since he is the 13th guy on the projected Loyalty depth chart, I don’t think we will be asking for much from him. Assuming all of the freshmen will be fine and won’t flame out.

I was stating that he has always provided decent minutes as a defender when asked and may be able to score. He knows his role.

I know there are/were a handful of Loyalty members who are associated with or living in Arizona, including myself. Has anyone heard a game time for the Arizona game yet????? TY

If BBV plays more than 50 minutes this year or any of the freshmen play more than 150 minutes, I would be surprised. In fact, would likely mean the Illini are not having the kind of season we are expecting. Now that’s not to say I’m not high on the freshmen. In fact, I wouldn’t be surprised if one or more of them play a key role in a few Ws. But those that say BU has had at least one freshman a year be a key part of the lineup seem to be forgetting that there were openings and needs in previous seasons. I just don’t see the path to starting or playing big minutes this year — which is a good thing. BU will try to get them some minutes, and there will be a few games where foul trouble or poor play by regulars gives opportunities to a freshman. But outside of injuries or a player(s) not meeting expectations, the majority of their playing time will be in noncon blowouts.

Does anyone know if and when we could expect a contribution from Lieb. Know he is a project but so far we are zero for bigs in that category. Was hoping (but not expecting) he would be different.

Just based on what I saw of him last year, I’d have to guess year 3 would be the earliest — and maybe more likely year 4. I hope he gets to the point he can contribute at least a consist 8-12 mpg cuz I’m a sucker for hard work and commitment paying off. Can’t say I see it now, but that’s where the hard work comes in.

I can’t see him doing anything until he’s much stronger. If he’s 225 with good strength in that weight range he might have a chance to see the court. If he’s 250 and doesn’t have the strength it won’t be time yet. A lot of people say player x needs to put on weight. Players need to add strength and let the size come as a function of getting stronger. Wiry strong in basketball is a thing usually pretty effective.

I am on board with most of your post, except for this. What gives you the impression that BBV is a step slow?

I agree that he has not shown anything so far (including if he is a step slow, or not.)

Honestly, Brad probably did him a disservice by talking him up about being a 3 here when it is all said and done. He appears to be a post player in this day and age. Maybe 10-15 years ago you'd use him as a big 3 man, IMO. Injuries make it nearly impossible to gauge where he is at.

Nice having Mr. Podz on the board.
Looking forward to seeing your son wear the O&B.
He looks like a great add to a great program.
Hoping there is recognition that minutes on a loaded and experienced team won’t adversely effect his (and your) excitement regarding the program, as freshman typically have to adjust and it takes some time.
However, I expect contributions and flashes year one, and I expect BP will be a fantastic player for many years.
My perspective (85 grad, so lots of miles and grey hair) is that the Podz family is nothing but class.
Thanks for being present, active, and bleeding O&B!!!
