Here is a in-depth video with Tyler Underwood done 4 days ago, you should be able to see first hand how this season is going to play out and who is going to play. If you want to find out about the freshmen, fast forward to 18min 11 sec and then the evaluation on all 3 of them. fast forward to 32min 28sec

Anyone know date of Midnight madness for Men/Women basketball? Does anyone know the date it is or when it might be happening?

I was just thinking about midnight madness today. All the hype for Hutch right now is fun, but the buzz around Kenny Battle after he tore it up in the scrimmage during his sit out year was fantastic.

To be fair, many of us watched Battle tear it up at Northern for two years. Battle was much closer to a sure thing.

October 8th, evidently.
Where'd you get that? I didn't find anything with a quick search.

Given our recent success and upward trajectory, I think now is as good a time as any to start pulling some star power for our Midnight Madness events. Get the right celebrity and kids (and media) start paying attention. Winning is but a fraction of the recipe.

When is the last time they did a midnight madness? I thought every D1 school has a midnight madness...

Tim Anderson is on Instagram now (tim.anderson15)
Seems our players think he's pretty solid. I have attached a few of the posts our players made

It's been a long time...All I will say is NO JEREMY PIVEN
I'm trying to recall this, but I can't find any information on it. I do remember it being a disaster of sorts. Didn't he get political during his time on the microphone?

I believe part of the problem is this used to happen at Huff, but after renovations the basketball floor couldn't go in. They have tried different formats, even attempting outdoor and tying it to Homecoming...recently the most activity has been at Ubben for recruiting weekends/Open gyms where we packed it, but not condusive to a big crowd event. Seems like the most successful midnight madness programs are top teir and are consistent with location and event planning. KU has midnight at Phogg advertised to the student body on day 1 of fall semester.

All kidding aside, they don't introduced the players and coaching staff to the student body?? and they don't have a 3-point contest and a dunk contest with the players??? nothing??? or is the October 8th date someone mentioned above truly happening, because I can not find it listed or mentioned anywhere, all I can find are other D1 schools...
You mention successful midnight madness programs are top tier (Illini Nation is not??? ) I thought the fan base and Orange Crush are supposed so be some of the greatest and well organized and they can't help put something together.. Sad, I would have never thought that....

They had a block party back when Groce was the coach. Blocked off Green street by alma, played a little scrimmage and had a little dunk contest. It was neat but definitely not at midnight.

My 2 cents is or was it was great when they had it at Huff because of the size. Fans packed in until and they had the usual dunk, 3pt and scrimmage.. Was great when Self came and with Webber the first couple years. However when the talent and on court product declined so did attendance. Groce tried one outside downtown on campus but it wasn't that great either. I think with the excitement and players we have it would be well attended again. I know I would gladly attend and even pay $20 to attend. They could collect and share this with the players NIL accounts. I say bring in REO and head east for entertainment!!!

My take on MM is that when they added the women's team to the festivity it lessened it's appeal. It dragged out and no one was interested in watching them. I'd love to see a fast event. Intros. Dunk contest. three point contest. some alum stuff. then on to a scrimmage.

Make it tight.

They held it in conjunction with a football game one year. Set up a court in the end zone near the horseshoe. It was HOT. Folks broiled through the football game, which we lost as I remember it. Very, very few fans stayed for the basketball show.

SFC with one of the hot rap or rap/pop stars (slide em 100k for 10 min), maybe a former illini bb stud(s), along with some flashing lights and bass - done. That's all you need to make a MM splash fit for recruits, fans, and ESPN.

I agree attendance is talent based, if it's coming back there is No time better than now with our current talent. With no attendance last year we will be very hungry to see the current edition of our beloved. Checked on celebrities from Illinois....slim pickens. We aspire to be in the top levels of college basketball... we should act like it. Hanging a couple of AA #s in the rafters along with a 3 point and dunk contest with a short scrimmage should do the trick. Should be at the State Farm Center instead of Huff though. Also bring in all of our commits and offered studs.

The fact that the student tickets sold out in hours is important and proof that the interest is at the highest level in years. The DIA needs to take advantage and schedule this event in the SFC ASAP. Hanging the banners would be a draw if they could get Ayo back. Charging a small fee and then splitting it with the player’s NIL is a great idea if it’s legal…
