I am not getting the love for Michigan. Wagner is killing it in the league, Livers was a huge piece, and Mike Smith and a couple other backcourt vets are gone. Yes, they’re bringing in some talent, but I think they lost more than they’re bringing in.
Mike Smith might be their biggest loss. I was really impressed with him.

He had a rough outing against us…as did the UM squad haha. If Curbelo makes the leap we all think/know he can. I think the Illini are the team to beat.
Not a single mention of Curbelo in the article, or whatever you call it. That really chapped my hide.

At least Lunardi tabbed Illinois as "most intriguing". I can't remember, do we like him?

Hopefully this is printed and on the bulletin board in the locker room because the amount of disrespect for Illinois as a top contender to lead the B1G to a national title and even tagged as a bit overrated should be additional fuel to keep the fire burning bright! The love for Michigan is understandable, but to discount the pieces we have and have added, it'll be nice to say "I told you so" in January.

But first, joy: How Illinois’ Andre Curbelo sees life and basketball ($)

"When asked for his earliest basketball memory, this is the story told by the Illinois sophomore still liable to get everyone’s attention, the take-no-prisoners point guard with passing ability straight out of the dark arts. The Little Lads tale is a pebble in his metaphorical shoe mostly because of the result, and the fact that he came in second way too many times for his liking as a young player. But there’s also a bewilderment in it, a part Curbelo can’t puzzle out to this day. A championship game. A packed gym. And this was someone’s reason not to play. It was frightening, acutely debilitating, and not everything a kid could ask for. He could understand, but he couldn’t relate. The noise is what you’re after. The noise is life.

“The noise,” Curbelo says, “gets me hype.”"

Not even close. He had good games for sure but wilted in big moments for them. Wagner and Livers are going to be incredibly more difficult to replace.
Livers and Wagner were total non-factors when we played them

... actually, their entire team were non-factors. Smith was the only who showed up.

And Hunter Dickinson, IMHO is over-rated.

Seemed like Trent shut him down in our game but pretty effective against others.

Kenpom has them #2 in the nation in his pre-season ratings. They also have the #2 ranked incoming class, with #10 and #16 players in the country plus another pair of top-50 players. Howard's no slouch as a coach either. They will be uber talented, even if they don't wind up producing a #1 seed. The top of the conference will be strong --I expect Michigan, Purdue, tOSU and Illinois will all have to fight hard to win it.
