He can be a good defense player in the league. He just need to shoot enough. He can be a 2nd rounder by simply improving in these two areas.
From a team standpoint the illini should concentrate on getting the ball to their best scorers which include RJ, Mayer and TSJ, don't see much benefit from more CoHawk shooting this year unless it is a dunk. I am hoping for team success this year, CoHawk NBA grooming can wait until next year.

It would be nice if all five guys on the floor are scoring threats - it puts more pressure on the opponent. I do agree that TSJ, RJ, and Mayer will be our top scorers, but I think Hawk will average 10+ ppg.

That is unless Dain plays the majority of minutes at the 5. But I don’t think that will be the case. I think Hawk will start at the 5 and also play the 4 and average 28-30 mpg. I think Dain will be around 20 mpg.

He won't be here next year IMO. He'll either go pro after a good season or transfer after a lackluster one.

I tend to agree. When I said CH’s shooting, I mostly meant spot shooting. If he becomes a good spot 3 point shooter, it will help the team and might help himself enough to get drafted. I don’t need to see him squandering the ball by trying to go to the basket.

The biggest area he needs to improve in is decision making. I recall some posters here saying he needs to play more freely and not worry about making a mistake. I think the opposite. He needs to play more disciplined.

He could learn something by watching Melendez. RJ is very focused in his moves with little wasted motion. When he puts the ball on the floor, you can tell he knows what option a, b, and c are.

Outside shooting and strength would obviously help him also. He can play in the NBA, but he needs to make a big leap before that can happen.
DeRozan gave Ayo some great advice that helped Ayo, applies here.

Know what you are going to do with the ball BEFORE you get it

Are best scorer will be a freshmen!!! The only way that Skyy is not our leading scorer is that he's hurt. I'm CH's case all he has to do is play with confidence and let his natural ability take care of itself

Was re watching a couple of tourney games and wonder if JD Notae is a good comp for Epps?

Obviously anything can happen in the tourney, but if we can figure out how to use our length on defense, we should have a solid 4-5 guys who can go get a bucket for us if we need it. I think we are primed for a deep tourney run.

I think you may have left out left out foreign players, g-league ignite and overtime elite players, and non-power 6 conference draftees from your calculation.
Fair enough. Looking over the last several drafts, on average 18/60 are from non-power conferences -- foreign, g-league, Gonzaga, etc.. That leaves 42/year drafted from power 6 conferences (Power5 + Big East), so 7 drafted per power conference is average.

Unsurprisingly, we're one of three schools talked about, along with Creighton and North Carolina. ($)
The money quote:
"I doubt many will pick the Illini as the preseason Big Ten favorite, but I’ll go there. I’d be really confident if I knew Illinois was getting the good Shannon, but I’ll bet on the talent and Underwood’s ability to motivate. The Illini win the Big Ten with Shannon and Mayer pivotal to that success."

Can the season start now, please!

No love for Matt Mayer. He was ranked #10 on 24/7

Dain got a lot of press in that article. Matt none until that last sentence.

We had half starter (Hawkins) and 2 lightly played freshman (RJ and Goode) returning. We lost 4.5 starters (Kofi, Trent, DaMonte, Jacob and Plummer)

Transfer portal gave us 2 SR wing starters from Top 20 schools (Texas Tech and Baylor) plus a potential starting 5 in Dain.
Add in Skyy Clark probable starting CG.

That is a great spring recruiting season. I love that Matt and Terrence are seniors. Like Plummer and Grandison there should be no learning curve.

If he is Jodae Notae like....we will be ecstatic. Notae story is special.

With two experienced 5th year players, counting on a frosh to be the leading scorer is a head-shaker....especially a point guard. Not that it can't happen, but I would be shocked...and likely so would Underwood. Skyy needs to hit shots at the end of the clock, distribute, and play havoc on defense. He can be an alpha dog next year. Would love to see him work on his shot and become an elite shooter as well as drive and dish.

Your point is valid, but this will be Shannon's 4th year

I agree. I think TSJ, Mayer, and RJ will be our leading scorers, and likely in that order.
