I agree. I think TSJ, Mayer, and RJ will be our leading scorers, and likely in that order.
Hawk scored +14 ppg in the three games Kofi was out. Not sure what that means for this year but think his scoring will take a big jump. Have no idea who the leading scorer will be but will bet for specific games it will include five different players by season end. Think that is what will make them tough to defend. Weakest opposing defensive player is going to be targeted.

Yeah, it’s unlikely we’ll have one guy like Ayo or Kofi that averages way more than everyone else. We could have five guys that average double figures, but all between 10-15 ppg. I think Hawk will likely be one of them. But I’d guess TSJ will be our leading scorer.

I said this before about this team, it will be a better version, scoring wise to the Tiddale, Davis, Chester, Meacham and McCamey group that put, like you said, 10-15 points a game. So many ways to score that teams will have a hard time guarding us. We may need to find a go to guy in those tight games though. Will it be RJ? Mayer, Epps/Clark? Hard to say.

First people were knocking Lieb’s playing ability, and now you’re just flat out calling him an ugly, awkward, doofus? This board can be brutal.

My guess is that we'll have 7 guys who lead a game in scoring because of match-ups including Dain and Goode.

(y) I think our leading scorers will be the guys that run the floor the best to cash in on the many transition baskets we'll score this year....Shannon Mayer and Melendez will probably take turns in leading that category

What you hearing from summer practice?
This is our most promising freshmen class as a whole in years. The Big 3 Fresh all will make a significant impact one way or another.

Dain is a player. Staff LOVES him. RJ is showing that he’s poised for a big jump this year. TSJ and Coleman looking as you would expect. Going to be a really fun year once this team gels.

After seeing a rerun of TTech vs Kansas, I have a couple of questions.
1. Watched Shannon closely for about 10 minutes. From comments I have read here and elsewhere, I was led to believe he was somewhat of an alpha dog a both ends....but that did not show up on tape I saw. TT had several athletic, hard-working, aggressive players, a couple who were definitely leaders and alpha dogs, but TSJ was not one of those types. He was a role player with shooting skills that his team badly needed...and he did his job. He has physical talent and BB skills but I was hoping he would prove to be the leader like DW and TF...both missing and needing replacement. Can he be that guy?
2.. Which brings me to another question about our other 5th year guy. Is Mayer a leader on the floor? This team of newbies sorely needs veteran leadership on the floor and the only player on the roster that I have seen with my own eyes that has the qualities to lead and motivate others is Goode who many posters seem to want to make fun of rather than credit with a myriad of sorely needed skills like shooting, defense, rebounding, and the willingness and physicality to be a B1G warrior every night.

This team needs leadership in the worst way. Who can provide that?

The player who most fits that role at both ends to me is Ty Rodgers. I watched every minute that he played in the FIBA tournament and without doubt, the coaches turned the leadership of both offense and defense over to him.

I know he's in his first year and this is the Big 10, not Mexico, but I am super impressed with how he handles things. Maybe not right away but by the end of the year he will most likely be the alpha dog. And if his 500 shots a day start falling, look out!

I think we have a great one there. In my 57 years of watching Illini basketball, he's one of the top echelon of guys who could truly impact the game.

Give me Skyy and Ty!!

Very disappointing start to the non-conference schedule
I mean, we already have some marquee matchups this season (as Dan helpfully points out on the first post of these threads):

Nov. 18 & 20, T-Mobile Arena
Illinois Sections: 11-15

Illinois to host Syracuse in ACC/Big Ten Challenge
Nov. 29th

Illinois vs Texas in the Jimmy V Classic
Dec. 6th, Madison Square Garden
