At 28:19, Jon explains his reason for the low ranking.

I don't agree that because there are so many new faces, they'll place 6th in the B1G... They have so many quality pieces that not everyone has to be a star.

Anyway, I do think that Jon has really good basketball knowledge and I don't disagree with his "wait and see" approach but he has us way too low. Like at our basement low. Not everyone can be Andy Katz unfortunately.

We may or may not be the best team in the conference on paper, but I would imagine we are fairly uncontroversially in the top 3 (with Indiana and Michigan). There's also a bit of good logic to the idea that, since we have so many new faces and will take time to jell, our place in the final standings may not reflect our actual place in the Big Ten pecking order by the end of the season. But I have a hard time we will be 3 spots behind (what I would argue is) the lower range of our preseason "on paper" ranking.

I would argue that his logic should put us closer to 4th and I think by midseason we have a good shot at just absolutely burying most of our opponents.

I realize the only clips we have seen of Dainja are him doing drills against a single defender but the dude looks like he has some definite skill. I will be surprised if he only averages 7 points per game.
I think he’s a prime candidate to get 25 in a single game, then turn around and throw up a couple duds.

That being said, considering the collection of shooters on this team, averaging 7 pts is nothing to be ashamed of

I think Clark and Rodgers will often pass up their own shots to get someone else a better shot. If TSJ and Clark are each playing 32m/game, that leaves ~16m for Epps. If Epps gets more of TSJ's time, the points will shift accordingly. I expect Dainja to play 25-28m/game with Coleman covering the remainder of time at the 5, and another 10m at the 4.

RJ 15
TSJ 12
Clark 6
Mayer 11
Cole 10

Epps 6
Dainja 10
Rodgers 3
Goode 4

Disclaimer: I'm not even qualified to be an armchair coach. I don't have an armchair.

Bound to get a few points out of Perrin and Harris. One person I know says that Perrin will get minutes. We’ll see.

I know you said someone else said this and you said "We'll see.", but all of our guys aren't going to be able to play. We seem to be loaded. I know these things always seem to work themselves out and we find out who is actually ready, but I would think at the end of the year, IF everyone stays healthy and we aren't short-handed, we MAY have some unhappy campers who don't get the time they think they deserve.

This is probably one of our coolest non-conference schedules in a while, right? 2020-21 is hard to even count, given the circumstances.

P.S. REALLY hoping that the game in Iowa City is on a Saturday. First of all, I would love to go visit my family and friends and cheer on the Illini in an arena without a bad seat, but ... what I really want is to see Iowa City painted orange!

If you think that Skyy is only scoring six points a game then you are hallucinating!!! And the quote that you made about him that he WILL OFTEN PASS UP OPEN SHOTS, is not going to happen. Yes he will get the other players involved but to say that he will be passing up shots when he is the most gifted scorer on the team is asinine

^ … Am I reading Houston’s ranking correctly? Lol…
Not to mention Arkansas. Both are top 10 in most of the preseason rankings I’ve seen.

Edit: I hadn’t bothered to look before spewing and assumed it was a preseason ranking. It’s not. Houston is a bit of a surprise still given their recent success.
