Must keep our Michigan win streak alive! I live in Chicago and those Michigan fans are everywhere, gross.
I've never EVER understood why there are so many Michigan fans here. I've mentioned this before on here, but my wife and I have a fun (and incredibly nerdy) mini-hobby of keeping a note on my phone of all of the college sports apparel we see anywhere in the Chicago area and having a running tally. People always talk about how there are supposedly so many Notre Dame fans in Chicago and Northwestern claims they're some local draw and Iowa fans think they have some big connection to the city, but it's Michigan that has been in second place the entire damn time (August 2019 to present):

Illinois - 149
Michigan - 79
Iowa - 71
Wisconsin - 57
Notre Dame - 53
Indiana - 52
Michigan State - 46
Northwestern - 37
Purdue - 30
Ohio State - 21
Illinois State - 12
...
Loyola Chicago - 10
DePaul - 9
...
Northern Illinois - 5

I know that is hardly scientific, but we do have some rules! A group of fans can count for a max of three, only one count for visiting a bar specifically meant to show one of those teams' games, can't count anyone we know, etc. Point is, there indeed are so many Michigan fans in Chicago, and I absolutely cannot stand it. I also cannot stand Juwan or Hunter Dickinson or their arrogant fan base.

I still have some pretty damn high hopes for this team, but I AT LEAST need us to keep Juwan and Hunter winless vs. the Illini to mark our regular season a success!

Has this been discussed? Sorry if I missed it. Skyy appears to call the rumors that he got in a fight with Matt “lies.”

Any takes here, insiders?
Not an insider, but I’ll never not think posting a rumor like that on Twitter isn’t a bit suspect. I’m sorry, but that really is very different from an insider saying the same thing here on this secluded message board.

Who the heck really knows what happened and honestly I am tired of hearing his name mentioned here anymore.. He chose to leave for personal reason and doesn't seem to be man enough to stand up and say where things are. He just continues to pop up when comments are made on twitter. Maybe speak your mind and move on.. Best way I know of to stop the lies and stories...

Random thought here, Skyy seems dialed into the Epps injury and some random Illinois basketball things, maybe he will be back and really did need to deal with something family related? He's not in the portal or anything sooo color be interested.

If he was dialed in he wouldn’t have made some virtue signaling post about Epps. He’d text him or his teammates directly. Sort of odd he made a post for Epps, but didn’t for Shannon when he went down.

What a wonderful evening of Fighting Illini basketball coming up tonight on the boob stream! Men play early and the women play late so make sure you have plenty of popped buttered pop corn to keep up!

Illini Basketball really will be middle of the road until we recruit a real dominant center. We just dont have consistant knockout shooters to win without one.

I've never EVER understood why there are so many Michigan fans here.

Here’s a few ideas...

1. People flock to “Success”. And like it or not, Michigan has had great football and roundball success for a very long time (while the Illini have had ‘lean’ periods). And the Michigan campus is physically the closest to Chicago of Big Ten places at that highest level of generational success. So Chicago-area people can be attracted to being associated with what they perceive as a ‘winner’. (Not going to be Iowa or Wisconsin or Indiana).

2. Shared Industrial Heritage. Both Michigan and Chicago are steeped in a rich and deep history of Blue Collar Worker families and jobs (at least they used to be). Many people moved and traveled into both Michigan and the Chicago area over the years for jobs and good pay (if they weren’t already living here). So there are probably lots of intra-and-inter-family connections among people from that.

3. Michigan Summer Homes. For a long time, many Chicago -area people have maintained summer and second homes on the Michigan side of the Lake. This again creates cross-influence between people and the regions. They make friends over there and get to be acquainted with Michigan families.

4. Many top Chicago-area high school players have gone to Michigan over the years instead of ‘staying home’. This again creates a layer of generational connection between the regions.

5. People just like that shade of yellow and blue. They can look quite appealing if you forget who and what they represent.

^ All great points. I guess I just can't shake my perspective.

As a non-grad Illini fan, I didn't choose the Illini because I went to school there; I chose them for the same reason I chose the Cubs and the Bears, they were the team from my state in that specific sports league (NCAAB and NCAAF). Period! I just see it as kind of weirdly pathetic to like latch onto another state's flagship because they're good ... hate to use the word "emasculating" here especially with the gender-specific connotations, but I just think it shows a total lack of pride in where you're from. It's like readily admitting, "Yeah, we suck ... can I cheer for you guys' team instead??" It's gross, lol. Imagine a kid growing up in Chicago latching onto the Packers because when he/she was young, the Bears sucked and the Packers were good. As far as the world of sports go, that's a literal character flaw to me. Ride or die with your state's teams.

Couldn't agree more, both with the Sage and with you.

2005. Guy I've worked with for 10+ years shows up after the big game in a Tarheels shirt. Says "he's been following them for years".

I call BS (loudly, you could do that in offices 20 years ago, today it would be offensive to farm animals), tell him I've known him for 10 years and have never heard him mention UNC one time.

Bandwagon jumpers / follow the leader people are definitely a pet peeve.
