But when do we take the next step?
Brad is doing fine!!! But is fine good enough??? Maybe I missed the contract extension announcement following the season. Brad has elevated the program but only to the 7th floor of a 10 story building. Yes better than the previous 10 years but can he get us to the top? What are the expectations to be at the TOP? As @illini0440 said when is the step up to the next level?

I'm still pretty optimistic about what this team can do. Obviously, an established PG would have made the team better, but defensively we should be a lot better than last year. That's the real advantage of getting old. We should be longer, stronger, and more athletic than most of the teams we play. The games may not be as fun to watch as they would have been with a veteran PG, but as long as we have a few more points at the end of 40 minutes, we can still celebrate.

Using your homemade metric there is only one consistently successful coach in college basketball: Bill Self

Mark Few also meets your criteria but his win totals are padded each year due to the schedule they play.

Musselman? Only a 50% success rate with Arkansas

Huggins? Hasn't had a successful season in over 5 years

Izzo? Zero success for him the last 3 seasons

Dan Hurley? Zero success while at UConn prior to 2022. They should have fired him before last season

That said, who are your favorite coaches to replace Underwood? Would like to see how they compare using your metric
Although your question was directed toward FWDH, I would offer the name of Coach Sean Miller.

and you are sure he would accept the position based on? conversation with Sean Miller? article from reliable source that Sean Miller wants the U of I job? Not picking on you, just hear this name thrown out by a lot of posters, as if it is a fact that he would jump on the opportunity.

I believe we should fire Underwood and hire one of the coaching geniuses who criticize him all the time. Do you really want a coach who lost his last job for cheating?

The names he mentioned: Few, Musselman, Huggins, Izzo, and Dan Hurley; are you sure that they would take the Illinois job? You Must not have read his question. "That said, who are your favorite coaches to replace Underwood? Would like to see how they compare using your metric?" That is the question I was answering. Also, one of the insiders (pretty sure 0440) said that there was interest from SM, and mentioned that he did indeed have a personal connection with him. Having said that, I have said before that I am all in on BU as our coach this year, and don't think he should be fired now. I hope he has a great year, and does well in the tournament, which would calm the anxiety of the fans, and maybe the AD and NIL sponsors. But, I also think that he needs to have a good year to keep his seat cool.

So, just to review where we sit as of now.

Bigs: Hawkins, Dainja, Guerrier, Hansberry, (Rodgers), (Goode)

Wings: Shannon, Damask, Goode, Rodgers, Harris, (Harmon)

Point: Williams, Harmon, Gibbs-Lawhorn, Moretti, (Harris), (Rodgers), (Damask)

If everyone is healthy, eligible, and improved; that is a deep, talented, and balanced roster.
I love your math. I have been watching for the last 4-6 weeks waiting for a point guard for this team. I clearly missed that we already had up to 7 of them on the current roster. Why in the world have i been worried so much about who was running the point?

If it's Sean Miller, then yes!

Anyone been watching the NBA finals?

I've never been big on Kofi's NBA future but I kinda feel like he might be perfect for a specialist role on a contender where you just let him bang with Jokic.

Jokic is incredibly good but I feel like he has a huge advantage in that he's an actual big center and those basically don't exist in the NBA anymore.

Kofi isn't super quick and wouldn't fare well guarding the perimeter on most bigs but I feel like he's athletic enough to stay in front of Jokic and actually strong enough to do a decent job 1 on 1 so he can't kill you with passing.

Jokic would make Kofi look silly

On BU’s lack of postseason success, I recognize you’ve got to win games but I also don’t think it’s arguable that Loyola and Houston were both brutally tough draws in the round of 32 based on our seeding and their respective KenPom rankings. My question is if we had met either of those 2 teams in the sweet 16 (which is probably where we should have met them) and bowed out would that change the narrative at all? And if not I think we just need to acknowledge that the NCAAT is pretty much a crapshoot in this era of parity and so long as we keep making the tourney, we have as good a chance as being a lower seed that makes a run as any.

Last year was definitely a bit of a disappointment given the talent amassed but we still finished over .500 in the BIG, made the tourney, and had our 2 biggest non con wins in the BU era. Given what we lost our AA center and most of our core rotation pieces, hard to be disappointed too badly.

The thing I like about Brad is he learns and adjusts. I think he learned from last year and brought in experienced, bigger guys who can pass and shoot. RayJ was a big miss and May cap our ceiling, but I’m excited to see how our young guys progress and merge with our new vets.

He just got a pretty enormous one after last season.

It's not cheating any more. Sean Miller + TA + Legal bags...the mind boggles...
