The consensus WAS DGL was not going to get much playing time this year. If DGL is getting 15 minutes per game who is losing those minutes?

I was not on the DGL hype train, but he's gonna get minutes if he plays with that intensity. He had Ty frustrated.
Any minutes we get from DGL is a bonus.. A combo of him Ty and Sincere could be good for us.. However if anyone thinks for a second DGL could get away with that much contact in real game, think again.. thats was 20 seconds of court time with at least 2-3 fouls

It's not like the Program is going to tweet out when DGL is being lazy, or when he throws the ball out of bounds. All highlight videos look good. I do find it interesting they showed two clips of our "PG of the future" getting stripped by a guy who came in with a reputation of soft defense. It's always a story of good news/bad news when there are highlights from intra-team scrimmages.

Still, love to see DGL has it in him to play solid on ball defense if he wants to. He's plenty athletic enough, he just has to buy in and take coaching.
I mean they just tweeted out a clip of their starting PG dribbling the ball off his foot. Sooo

as long as Ty can keep moving, being longer than these guards should allow for him to contest even if he gets beaten.

See Mayer last year. He often guarded smaller and faster guard/wings, yet had a ton of blocks because of his length.

Not saying it’s the perfect answer, but it’s not an end all that he’ll get burned.

At least one of the insiders has been screaming for months that DGL would get no tick. Oops...........

Sencire will never be Trent II- he cant shoot a tenth of what Trent could/can.
No argument there but if he can become servicable from the outside and utilize his better athleticism then he can become more than a liability on offense. His defense cannot be ignored and he does have that Trent mentality which is really the key!

Great points about the physicality vs. fouls in the DGL clip(s).

What is the balance between teaching/coaching a smaller guard to be physical in a physically demanding conference in practice without ingraining in him the propensity to commit silly fouls, something I feel our guards have struggled with? Chester certainly loved it.

Given his history, the concerns with DGL were legitimate at the time. Kids change though and if he’s matured and bought in completely, he could have a great career here.

I think this team is going to be much better than last year's.

- Add proven shooters: Goode, Domask - (elite shooters were absent last season)
- Expect improved shooting from: nearly all returning players (Hawkins, TSJ, Dain, Ty, Harris, etc)
- Add athletic PG DGL (let's see what happens in Spain)
- Add athletic big forward Guerrier (let's see what happens in Spain)
- Add athletic guard Harmon (let's see what happens in Spain)
- Hawkins showed signs of being absolutely dominate late last season - taking ball to hoop and finishing inside 8 ft. He has the potential to significantly move the needle to the North.
- Ty could be a beast at PG.
- Sincere has high end potential too...
- I hope TSJ expands his game. Right now he is a "shooter / take it hard to the hole" type of guy. He needs to improve his ball handling, develop skills to allow him to go left & learn how to be a playmaker (being a danger around the midrange area).

I have no doubt that the players will put in the work & the coaching staff will further develop EVERY player.

I'm confident Hawkins, Dainja, TSJ, Ty & Sincere all improve. Hopefully, Goode & Domask improve their shooting EVEN MORE. Hopefully, Guerrier fits in and challenges for starting spot. Guerrier will be a solid regardless & can even serve as a backup center in a pinch.

I can't wait to see the results in Spain.

I have to think that the best skill a guard as small as DGL can use against a real big man is to find the first opportunity to plant and take the charge. If you can sell it the big has to think twice before using his heft to get through you. Of course with that difference the steal has to be a big opportunity but it comes at a high risk also. I'm not too sure what other great moves a small guard can use to defend against a true big man.

....
TSJ needs to watch Ayo videos driving the lane and laying the ball high off the backboard to avoid the block

TSJ does not elevate so he is easily blocked once he gets into the lane

You lost me at “expect improved shooting from nearly all returning players.” I believe the only players who had played in college and improved their shooting last year from their previous year were Goode and Dain (and Dain had played very limited minutes previously). Sure you can cite reasons for why that might have happened and hopefully better overall roster construction and some addition by subtraction helps, but expect? Hmmmm

DGL excels when playing with a chip on his shoulders. He balls out.
Don’t be surprised if the “DGL won’t get minutes” camp actually originated from the coaching staff. They want to see how he reacts and responds to that message. It’s their way of motivating him.
