Very glad to see this update. And what do I know, but this sure sounds like a PG to me. Renewed my season tickets last week, and I'm really looking forward to seeing this TEAM in a few months!

Rodgers sees facilitator as his top trait. Put the ball in his hands and in ball-screen actions, and he can raise his teammates’ level of play.

Luke Goode and Marcus Domask can get more open looks from three-point range. Terrence Shannon Jr. won’t have to carry the load as No. 1 scoring option and point guard. Coleman Hawkins can be used more efficiently with less on his own plate, too.

“You’re going to see their game elevate because of that,” Rodgers said.

Not sure where to put this, but Bronny James suffered “cardiac arrest” while working out at USC. He’s stable right now.

If Ty says no one in THAT building is worried about his jumper, I believe him. I've been on team Ty since he played a similar role as Ayo did for team USA. I have no doubts whatsoever that he'll do an outstanding job on his role as pg this season. I'm really really looking forward to this season, I have a feeling it's going to be pretty special.

What does accuracy have to do with optimism? The writer didn’t say he flirted with a triple double every night. He said he nearly averaged a triple double. And I checked, he did indeed round up on assists to get him to that 8 per game.

I’m optimistic about Ty and that he’ll be at least fine at PG this season and very possibly better than that. I’m also very bullish on him for the future. Sorry if I don’t think him achieving less than 80% in one of the triple double categories constitutes “nearly.” That’s not a knock on what he accomplished, just a knock on the writer’s accuracy. Guess I’m a dying breed that values accuracy.
You gonna piss and moan about 8 assists per game? GMAFB.

I also am bullish on this year's team. (I almost always see things through orange colored glasses). I am certain there will be times that a pure ball handler would be a great benefit to have. We will have DGL and hopefully Harmon and maybe TSJ to spell minutes with those duties.

I have to imagine though (if the starting lineup is something close to Ty, TSJ, Goode, Hawkins and Dainja) that a starting point guard will not like getting hounded on defense by Ty Rodgers. That entire starting line-up would be 6'6"or over. You still have 6"9" Guerrier, 6"10 Hansberry for the front line and Sincere and Harmon, DGL and Domask for back court help. I think without significant injuries we go 11-1 in the non-conference and 14-6 in conference with the losses in conference all coming away (except for Purdue) from Champaign to Iowa, Maryland, Michigan St. and Rutgers.

You know we're in the depths of summer when we're having a sematic disagreement over the word "nearly"
Wouldn't it be nice to have a sidebar about pizza or hamburgers instead, to fill the offseason time, alas. Whoops I hear the fun police coming. And I don't mean Dan.

I will take the under of 25 wins (25-7) Last year I hoped for 24 or 25 wins and still have a bad taste in my mouth.

11-1 in the non-conference would likely lock us a tournament berth with only 8 or 9 conference wins… Would also mean we win 3 of 4 against Mizzou, Tennessee, FAU & Marquette. Not to mention a few of our “cupcakes” aren’t cupcakes this year…. 11-1 would be awesome but 9-3 & a .500 conference season I would say is the floor & what you’re saying is the ceiling. I expect something like 10-2 and 12-8 or 13-7…

I think our non-conference loss will be to Tennessee.

Well I’d say there is a difference, but mainly because how the were used. You said flirted with every game; he said nearly for the whole season. If he has 10 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists at half, he is certainly flirting with a triple double. But if he finishes with 17 points, 12 rebounds and 7 assists, I don’t really think that is nearly a triple double. It’s a great game and a double-double but not really nearly a triple-double. I just thought it was unneeded embellishment. He had a great senior year as the stats he cited show. Why not just leave it at that?

Anyway, I think we can all agree that we want him to have a good year, and it’s great he’s putting in the work.

symantics but agree that the article was stretching the truth regarding accomplishments for the season specifically relating to assists.

I'm thinking you're in the fire underwood camp.
Why? It was the writer (Richey I think) who embellished. But I’m not in the fire Underwood camp. Some of the things we’ve been hearing of late are a bit concerning and didn’t like the two new assistant “hires,” but I like BU. He has some coaching shortcomings and I’d like to see some post season success obviously, but overall I think he’s done a very good job. Check back with me in a year or two though as I think the next 2 seasons are critical if Illini are going to make the jump I’m sure we all want to see.

It was a joke.

No one embellished like underwood

I do get this point and agree. I can flirt with 10 women at a bar. That doesn't mean I nearly took one home.
